dyno day

We need a dyno day for this! They work good on my car as well.
Could someone have put them on backwards? I had a GT a few years ago and the muffler shop put one on backwards.

As the exhaust gas cools making its way towards the back doesn't the velocity decrease? I know many of the older cars run 3" to the rear and 2 1/4" up, over and out the back because the piping didn't make that much difference that far back. Anyone have some spare mufflers laying around? Would a simple back pressure measurement upstream of the muffler at a given flow rate be what we are looking for or something else? I guess it just has never really bothered me because I can take my cap off the test pipe in about 10 seconds with quick-nuts. Next time I am at the track I will run it both ways with no changes at all other than open vs. closed.

Switched from a 3" flowmaster 40-series on my single shot to a 3" DynoMax bullet muff. Car picked up AT LEAST 5 (FIVE) psi and was way lean. Had to add 8% more fuel at WOT even after I got the boost back down some. Night and day SOTP difference on a mid-10 sec combo.

Hum

Well if yo usay you run fast with the flowmasters ,,, hten I would say you can go faster without them.. Any person with common sense can see that with a turbo car, or any forced induction car there is not a great need in back pressure cause we are trying to get rid of all the air we can so we can suck more in twice as fast. We don't need a medium between out motor "backpressure" to build power. So with cars in the 12's the flows may not hurt that much cause it doesn't take a lot of boost to run say a hi 12. But IMO when the boost is turned up you need a straight a path as possible not sometheing with chambers of baffles in it. Go take a milk jug an blow thru it with a pen hoe in it till your eyeballs pop out then go change those flowmasters maybe then you'll understand. By hte way this car previously ran mid 11's an they were holding the car back a lot.

I have flowmasters and I run 20psi on pump gas. Dont seem to slow me down any but Ill see when i put on the dump.

hmm

I'm gonna put a dump on mine anyway. I can't stand the way other Buicks sound with the atr and ultraflow and other straight through mufflers sound-ok at idle but "glass packy" at full throttle.
Cutter you bought got that engine ready?

Has anyone tried the "gadgets" that insert into the ends of an exhaust pipe with its purpose to quieten the sound?
