Flushing trans lines and cooler

I have been woundering about this. I see there is a big trend out there for selling transmissions over the internet and then a self install. Years a go I had a trans changed in my everyday car and the shop kept pushing a new external cooler because he would not want to warranty his work if any debris was left behind in the factory cooler or radiator. After some talking to him he finally agreed to give me the warranty after flushing the factory cooler and radiator for a good amount of time. Now, I see people selling transmissions over the net and bolting them up using the same converters?? What gives? When is a flush necassary if a transmission fails? Can a radiator be flushed and fully cleaned? Can someone shed some light on this subject?

a flush is necessary to perform if there is contamination due to a failed converter or internal component and or clutch material,or if a restriction in the cooler is suspected.this is almost always the case in the event of a transmission failure..this doesnt mean an auxilary cooler is necessary either.if your using a higher stall than a converter is necessary.i read everywhere that 90 percent of trans failures are heat related.i really dont find this to be true or related to the gm2004r in turbobuick applications however.

Some local shops should have a machine called a hot flush which uses ATF that is heated, pulsed with air, and reversed in flow to get the debris out. We had awesome results with the ones at the shop i used to work at. It's a great way to save an expensive aftermarket radiator. Personally I would flush the cooler in this manner any time anything failed.

PS: the spray can stuff is nowhere near as good. Better than nothing, but not that great.

So you guys are saying you can flush and reuse a trans. cooler after the transmission has be blown? thanks,Forrest
