I just finished my install of Razor's PAC kit (an incredibly detailed and extremely well put together kit!) and am ready to put in the Alky.

What are you guys using? I think Razor likes straight Methanol and that's a great recommendation. Where do you buy this stuff? If using Alky, which is better - the Isopropyl or the Dentatured and do I need to cut either of them with H2O?

(I'll post some pics later but the install was easy!)

Hi Steve,

Didn't have much time, but maybe this past thread will help a bit. There are some other threads on the subject too...search for methanol, denatured, etc. Available at our local track and race shops. May want to call around too. Hope this helps...

Thanks Mickey. I did do a couple of searches but apparently didn't use the right key words.

Thanks again. That was a help and I'm looking at other posts now that I'm headed in the right search direction.

Steve, you're a couple hours of installation ahead of me. I can't wait to get mine going and just have to do the interior wiring now, but will have to wait until after BG. Maybe we can compare tuning notes when I'm up and running also, and I'm starting to use DS.

I called a local VP distributor the other day and I can get the methanol for $3.60/gal in my own container or they sell a 5 gal container for around $23.

Tim87TR - I finished all the wiring today and tested the system - man, it rocks! All the right lights coming on at the right time - way cool.

I only have to button up the panels beneath the instrument cluster tomorrow (these 12 hour night shifts suck at trying to get projects completed). Everything else is where it needs to be and I was surprised at how easy (overall) the install was.

The only places where I ran into any snags was not related to anything to do with the kit at all. Just some logistics stuff such as the best route to run the wiring from the front of the car to the firewall grommet, etc. (It WAS a b!tch getting that shielded wire through that grommet though!)

I would be glad to trade notes on the results with you or anyone. Can't wait to take it to the track this Friday, weather permitting. ;) I'm going to Norwalk for the local Ford boys' Smackdown event.

Should be a lot of fun!

Cool, good to hear the positive results. I have no doubts that it will work great on my car. How much boost did you put to it so far. I'd like to stay in the 22 to 24 range, and doesn't sound like that will be a problem from what I've read.

One question...did you splice the green wire into the MAP sensor wire? I have and didn't recall reading that specific instruction, although it says the green wire into the PAC is from the MAP sensor, and inferred that splice.

I was lucky on the grommet/firewall deal since I had drilled a larger hole previously behind the brake pedal area, and it tuned out a great spot for the wiring to lead into the car for this kit.

Yeah, I spliced the green wire right at the MAP after peeling back some of the loom that covered it. I then soldered the connection and covered it in heat shrink to protect it.

I was about to dig in and drill another hole behind the brake pedal when I finally got the wire through (on the third try). I know this - I definitely will have to drill another hole even if I want to try to thread a piece of spider web through the original firewall grommet. :)

I've only had it up to 17 psi boost since I'm still tuning the new turbo. No Alcohol in the system as of this evening but that's coming tomorrow.

There were a few little things on the instructions that took just a moment to follow through but overall, they were by far the best set of instructions I've ever seen for a performance mod from ANY vendor, bar none. This is a very complicated mod - systems wise - but Razor's attention to detail and his including drawings with the kit to give you a visual reference REALLY helped.

Let me know how it goes for you and feel free to email anytime.

I started out using denatured and now have switched to methonol. My car seems to like the meth better, even more so in colder temps. The car seemed picky on denatured, either to little and got KR or to much and it would get pig rich and shudder. My first tuning sessions were in temps in the 45 to 55 deg range, so keep that in mind if you are in a warmer climate, denatured may be fine too in normal temps. Still looking for a cheap source of the meth in my town though. Paid $5.95 a gallon for 5 gallons
 . Also seemed to gain about 2-2.5 pounds of boost when I switched.

Well, I bought 2 gallons of Denatured today - nearly $10 bucks a gallon at Mennards! I also bought one gallon at Lowes (also $10 per gallon) but it says "S-L-X" above the lable "Denatured Alcohol". Not sure what that was but I haven't put it in the car yet. Any ideas here? I've got to find some cheaper alky but nobody had 5 gallon cans of it so I paid through the nose.

I did put the other stuff in the car (from Mennards) and will test it at the track tomorrow. After filling it up and doing some run thoughs, I only found one tiny leak on a fitting I initially thought was tight enough (at the pump housing on the discharge side). I was concerned about breaking the plastic fitting on the pump as Razor cautioned in his instructions, so I must have left it too loose during the install. It's fixed now though.

Everything looks great and works fine so I'm pretty pumped about tomorrow. Hope that the weather cooperates!

I'm going to dial the car in without the alky first (just installed a new TE-60 turbo and SL intercooler) and then I'll add the alky. Should be fun.
