Whats the score with this mod ?

Do you have to carve up your car to install it ? I am interested in this mod but not too sure about how the install goes.

Where do I route the pipes to and from the intercooler ? Anyone have pics of a completed job or a few of an install ?

I remember reading that you have to cut portions of the front of the car due to the size of the intercooler. Is this the case or can it be installed w/o any cutting up ?

Not willing to spend 1,200 bucks on a Spearco and the Ford IC is so much cheaper with a lil hard work.

Since the inlet/outlet is in the middle of the IC, you have to cut two holes for the pipes to go through. It's really easy and isn't noiticable with the IC installed. You also have to grind quite a bit of material off the header panel which you also can't see with everything installed. It's a full day's work but worth it IMO. It's very hard to get the bright lights to fit but it can be done. Coolant temps are unchanged over no IC and looking through the grill it looks like you have a nice big aluminum radiator. It might fool some people that you don't have a huge FM IC.

I believe it is also possible to cut the aluminum Ford IC's down a few rows so that you don't have to cut the header panel and hood.

I bet if you could get your hands on an aluminum tanked i/c you could refab the tanks so it fits better. Its a really tight fit to get the high beams in. The i/c are touching the lights.

Why not mount it behind the rad ?

Lots of room with the shroud removed and you could strap an elect. fan to it to assist in cooling....fab up pipes to run and volia...

I mean I realize that the heat from the rad will be blowing through it but why not try mounting it there instead of in front if its such a poor fit ? Not to mention cutting your car...

I'm sure the gains would still be quite noticable and the temp change only a minor factor no ?

The intercooler would act like an interheater behind the radiator. The air going through it would be a minumum of 100 degrees hotter than a FM not to mention underhood temps. Remember, the intercooler not only transfers heat from the charge air to the outside air but it acts like a heatsink.

Wow...thats something else.

I've never heard of that kind of experiment.

Not too sure about squirting gas into my manifold though...what if it malfunctions while u are driving...or whatever...and then you get some minor puddling...then * BAM *

Dont mean to be the what if guy ......BUT

Sound neat if its proven...you do your car first though...0 k?

nothing fits behind the rad..

not even my little volvo intercooler.

and yes.. "interheater" ala corky bell.

intercoolers under the hood are retarded.. WRX and ford SVO's have the most retarder intercooler ever.... lets sit it on top of the engine.. yes good idea, so the 300* engine block and all of its heat.. because heat rises, will go right up to the top of the engine bay.. where the IC is.. and heat it up! good idea!.

wait, no.. lets put a scoop on the hood so the IC gets airflow..

but.. what about room behind the ic.. there is none because its SITTING ON TOP OF THE MOTOR..

so much for airflow.

the moral of this story is

powerstroke front mount = :D

subaru wrx and all stupid turbo imports =

and ford svo's =

who needs an intercooler anyway ;)

got that bottle in the trunk..

also keep in mind.. $1200 spearco includes pipes IC and adapter pieces...

the $350 powerstroke has no adapter pieces or piping, you will have to make an adapter, i can send you a picture of mine if you need.
