This aint free but real cheap I was at Gnttype.org in the tech articles and found PO Boys cold air induction where by using the metal flexible dryer hose and a 90' heating duct you can make cold air induction. Its a well described artcle step by step Im thinkin of trying it this winter when i park the beast. Most of the stuff on that website pertains to the 86-87 so be careful

free mod.. open exhaust

dollar mod, home made adjustable wastegate

dont do them without a knock gauge of some sort and a boost gauge though.. not free.

Welcome

Assuming you are new to Turbobuickland,Try www.gnttype.org alot of the stuff for the 86-87 will work on 84-85's.Just get the basic info you need and wing it from there and post often as you like here if you get stuck.Check out the junkyard section of this board too. There are things that you will need to do before you turn up your boost to supply more fuel to support your boost levels, this is the most important factor to keep in mind. You will need if you don't have them already,an adj fuel pressure reg, high volume fuel pump with a relay to hotwire the pump to your alt with a heavier wire to supply voltage lost in stock pump wiring.Stock wiring is then used to trigger relay.A 9" K&N cone style air filter is a good cheap mod.A killer free mod would be to port your intake tract including the heads.Do a search on "porting" in the hot air section for specifics.Good luck!

This is going to sound bad but I did a couple free mods when I first bought the car, before I knew much about it and before this website was here. Open exhaust is one of them or at least gutting the cat. The other is turning the boost up. I knew when I left a vacuum line off the wastegate the boost went unlimited so I cut a peice of a Bic pen and put it in the wastegate vacuum line. Then I poked holes in it until the boost was where I wanted it (~17psi). It was primitive but I knew nothing of bleeder valves and it was absolutely free. I also removed the AC in the winter time and spare tire and jack. When the time came for tires I ran the Bowling Greens which at the time hooked better than any dragradial on the street. The only other thing I can think of that made a signifigant difference was sticking a paperclip in the ALDL to lock the torque convertor. It added about 4mph in the 1/4 which is huge for a free mod. Removing the TB coolant lines doesn't hurt but hasn't been proven to help either. If you're good at porting, you can do the intake and heads which makes a very big difference but isn't totally free. Porting the exhaust elbow on the turbo is free and it takes about 45 minutes to do. I was on the stock fuel pump and regulator with no scan tool because I didn't know any better at the time, I guess I got lucky but I did manage to go deep in the 13s like that.
