Hi, fellas. I just got hold of a NOS front bumper rub strip for my '87 Grand National. Has the white stripe, but I know from reading here that I can use the end of an air hose or thinner with a q-tip to remove it. My question is: what's the first step in removing the front bumper? This is in order to take off the old strip and put on the new one. From the assembly drawing of the G-Body, it shows the asborber assembly to the frame, then the front bumper impact bar and the plate assembly attatched to it. It looks like the front bumper is bolted to the front bumper impact bar. Is this where I can undo the bolt and drop the bumper? And, (may be silly question) is the bumper real heavy? I ask this because I have a real, bad disc damaged back and have to be careful:mad:. Any suggestions, help from any of you who have done this would be very, very appreciated.:)
I thank you kindly.

i think but am not 100% sure, since ive only had the back one off, unplug parking lights, 4 nuts on each side of the bumper connecting to the frame/absorbers(this will remove the bumper from car), then the impact bar will have torx style bolts holding it to the bumper shell, after impact bar removed the strip will be held on by those little nuts that are used to cut threads into plastic. it shouldnt be hard, those torx bolts may be alittle stubborn though.

if the bumper has an aluminum support it shouldnt be too heavy but to be on the safe side just rangle up some young person when ur ready! hth

also dont forget the grill springs. you will snap the grill if you dont undue them first.

Just support the bumper with jack stands at each end. They will hold up the bumper when you start to remove the nuts and bolts off the absorbers. Then you can just life the bumper off while standing up infront of the car.

Johnnyttype, Stack1,Boost231, thank you. Very helplful to me. I'll do as you suggest.
Boost231, I have a set of grill springs that I my brother got from a boneyard. He said he couldn't see where they were attatched on the old Regal, as the bumper, front end was flat on the ground with the rest of the car. The springs were just hanging down from the grill. I cleaned and painted them, looks great, but there is no set of springs on the grill.:( We have looked high and low how they are attatched, found the spot on the bottom of the black grill, that's fine, but where they go on the bumper, we have no idea. No holes, notches, nothing. I've gone crazy trying to find where to hook those darn springs. But I do thank you for pointing out about the grill springs to me, others here can find that helpful, too.
I'll have to ask, now that you suggested this, where in hell does the front of the springs go? I've cracked the bumper fillers in front just prying, pulling, trying to find out. Can you enlighten me here? And, no, cracking the bumper fillers didn't make me too mad, just mad enough. Because of my stupidity in this, that's just one more thing I'll have to replace. What next?
