Will this turbo bolt up to a stock exhaust elbow? What the ramifications of the wastegate hole being welded shut? Do you have to run an external wastegate?

The only way to use a stock elbow with this turbo would be to remove the puck from it and weld the little hole shut. You would then need to modify your stock downpipe to accept an external gate. This would be the same for any Houston style downpipe that has an integrated waste gate.

It may actually be cheaper to remove the exhaust housing and have the WG hole drilled out again. That way you could use this turbo with any style downpipe with an integrated WG, including the stock elbow.

After some thought you could leave an integrated WG on. The actuator would just hold it tight but you still would not look stock since there would be an external gate thats actually doing the work.

The stock elbow is bad though, its a huge restriction point and not even worth modifying to accept an external WG.
