Fuel guage or Sender???

My analog fuel guage doesn't read correctly any more and it is driving me crazy. If I fill the car up the guage will not read above 3/4 of a tank and it never falls below a 1/4. This happened suddenly, one day it worked fine and the next it was like this. If anyone out there has any idea of what this could be please help me so I can get this fixed before Bowling Green.

Sounds like the sending unit is bad.

99% of the time the problem is in the gauge. Not actually a fualt, but rather, the contacts on the gauge get a little corrosion and this disrupts the resistance reading enough to yield flaky gauge readings.

The easiest fix is to get the gauge out, and you'll see that it just plugs into the dash cluster with round pins. These need to be emory cloth'd clean, and maybe a little spritz of contact cleaner sprayed into the sockets.
