Probably a dumb question, but that hasn’t stopped me from asking several before.
Is the fuel pump relay on the P side inner fender used if the car has a new fuel pump and Hotwire kit?
Car has had a relatively (not excessive) long cranking time before starting, both before new pump & Hotwire install - especially when warmed up.
Wondering if the relay could be the culprit. Thanks

Unless you bypassed it with the hotwire install it is still commanding the relay in the back to send the "hot" power to the pump. Or at least that is the way my kit was set up.
Long cranking? as in 30 sec or it rolls over a few times then busts off? The three "tooth" crank sensor isn't near as sensitive as the newer crank sensor setups(many more "teeth" to "see") so the engine has to go around for it to get its bearing and bust off. It ain't an LS

fuel pump relay on fender is probably dead , the pump(hotwire) will still get power if the oe oil pressure switch is still connected it will send power to the pump once oil pressure is above 4psi , would explain what seems like a long crank to start

if you want to check just unplug the factory fuel pump relay and see if it starts the same
if it does start the same the relay isnt working
fuel relay is the one closest to battery with gray connector

Usually.

Mine had the positions swapped sometime in its life. I had the same problem OP describes. I removed the relay closest to the battery, took to parts store & purchased the replacement. Installed new relay & same problem. Took a while to figure out something that simple.

Yes. Test or replace relay.

Isn't that strange? I wonder what the motivation was to do that?

Here’s what I have. Front of the car is to the right in pic. What’s what?

From left to right: barring that the relays haven’t been swapped.

ESC module
A/C cutoff relay
Fuel pump relay
MAP sensor

i posted relay with "gray connector " is the fuel

the ac clutch relay and fuel are very similar except one connector has a flag to the side (ac), one to the bottom (fuel)

FROM FIRE WALL TO FENDER

ESC MODULE
A/C CUT OUT RELAY
FUEL PUMP RELAY
MAP SENSOR

EDIT: DIDN'T NOTICE THIS WAS POSTED BEFOR4E....
