alright guys this is racking my brain. Ive got a walboro 340 thats hot wired. and ive burned up 3 relays in the last month and a half. There is an inline 20 amp fuse and that is NOT popping. What would cause a relay to go bad? i dont think that i got 2 that were bad in a row. All my connections seem to be good and protected from grounding. Any ideas?

Did this just start happening on its own or has it been this way since the pump and hotwire kit was installed? What brand of relay is it? The reason I ask is that the relays you get at a place like Advance Auto will not hold up. I had a Radio Shack relay last for 7 years and then I switched to Bosch when it burned out. In a pinch, I bought one at Advance Auto when my RS one burned out and it lasted less than a week ... hence the Bosch.

I think there is a wiring short after your inline fuse. Are you sure the power wire feeding the relay isn't shorting on something in its run from the fuse to the relay? I guess I am asuming you have the relay in the trunk or under the car near the tank.

ive had the car for about a year now, and there was already a hot wire kit installed on the car. so that unknown relay was good for at least 8 months. Then one day it burned out, so i replaced it with the relay that came from the hot wire kit that i bought from caspers. Then that lasted for about a month. Then i bought one from car quest, and it lasted a week.

The relay is near the tank, and the only thing i can think of is run the NEW wiring kit that i bought for it a while ago and find a good relay for it.

Well, it sure sounds to me like there is a short somewhere in your feed wire. The two relays that lasted longer were probably good quality ones. The ones you buy at auto parts stores are generally not so tough and can't take the heat.

If it were me, I think I'd run that new wire kit and be done with it. Go to a stereo store and get a Bosch relay. The stereo shop near me had buckets of them and they only charged $2 for one.
