Im in NYC and went to VA recently and seen in walmart the same price I didnt buy any though it was only saving me 20 cents from NY price the last time I went down few months earlier I could have sworn till I was blue in the face that the price was $17.99 on the same thing also same price in costco down south

You don't get as much oil as in 5 individual quarts, either.

i went in there today just to verify the price... its true!

i just use Dino oil though :)

No one will ever beat my deal on Mobil1 at autozone. I got it free because they were discontinuing the weight I wanted. Got 2 free cases. Sweeeeet...

Every so often Poop Boys have a coupon for $3.99 a qt. in their flyer. F Walfart.

Pep Boys has a 2005 MADD calander for one dollar that has a coupon that gets you half off a case or buy 3 get 3 free. Which ever it is, I got 6 quarts for $16.

I doubt it's too much of a difference.

What he said was you don't get as much as 5 singles.

I would bet the 5 qt. jug is 5 qt.s at least.

Probably a law out there about that. ;)

Error in single quarts being overfilled slightly would increase over the error in one 5 qt. jug possibly giving you more.

Unless it's a Walmart and Mobil conspiracy.
:p

I won't shop there so I can't confirm it.

FWIW & IMHO:
I like Wally-World for certain things. There are some things and certain sizes that are offered at Target at competitive prices that are not offered at WallyMart. And vice-versa. I shop both, can't afford not to. It is true about the five quart container versus 5 individual quart containers. I do not know if there is a law or not, I would assume that there is. Being as a manufacturer/packager/bottler states the quantity on the container, which is a law, I believe, then if you get caught cheating by the Dept. of Weights and Measures, you could be forced/subject to recalling all of your products that are in question. As a consequence, Mobil 1 had a minimum of at least a quart, and more to avoid any lawsuits/problems. Probavbly not a lot, but I would guess at least a 1/3 of a quart. Marginal, at best, but definitely more. I verified this myself about 8 years ago.

If the bottle states 5 quarts, then it has to contain 5 quarts by law. As far as any overage, companies cannot afford to give the customer "a little extra" just to be safe. I'm certain there are beancounters that watch every last ounce that gets filled during the bottling process. An ounce here or there can mean hundreds of gallons over the course of a fill run.

I like buying the quarts because they are easier to handle and my 3800 S/C only takes 4 quarts anyways.

Is it the "old" Mobil 1? I know Mobil 1 is coming out with 15,000 mile stuff with twice the "good" additive. I'll be switching to it this season - giving my bearings more love...

strike

:D

Is this a municipal, county, state, or federal law, and could you post where I may read it? Also, keep in mind that a quart will always be on the plus side and not the minus side. If you think that they set their scales or criteria to a quart and no tolerance, you are mistaken.

Not true: A company will be more than willing to allow for an overage than be shut down by the Dept. of Weights & Measures, who control such things, be subject to a recall of product, and be subject to a lawsuit.

You could buy a 5 qt container, fill your car with it, install new oil filter, and measure it on the dipstick. And do that again on next oil change & filter change excepting use 5 individual quarts, an remeasure on the dipstick.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------No flaming intended, but that is how I found out. Did it twice because I did not believe the difference the first time.

No company that sells in quantities like that in volume to the public wants an issue with the Dept. of Weights and Measures, a a possible recall of product, issues with the public, and/or a possible lawsuit.

Yes there is a tolerance that has to be adhered to. I worked for 2 years as a line inspector for the Nair filling line and according to our company's legal dept., (I'm sure Exxon/Mobil has similar practices in place) legal labelled capacity can be as much a 1% under to fulfill requirements. There were a few nights (I worked 2nd shift) where upon random sampling, a few 9 oz. bottles came up short. A full nights production run had to be quarantined to prevent that from reaching the customer's hands. There were also a few times when the bottles were a little heavy and we didn't get the yield we expected.

With the new Mobil 1 out now, that could be a loooong time between oil changes. I believe if I still had my GN, I would be all over that 5 qt jug. No flame taken. Cheers!
