My T type is peg legged...which is bad. My buddy that works at a bone yard just got a 85 Monte SS with a 3.42 posi rear end. I know that the SS rear is a 7.5" ring gear and ours are 8.5" My question is, for $100 is this a better alternative to buying a $400 Eaton unit for my 8.5? Is this strong enough for our cars or will I actually be hurting it? Also, could I just swap out my gear for his? I'm not really sure how to go about this, but cheap and traction are the only two concerns right now.

Thanks!

Do you think Buick would have put an 8.5 in our TRs if the candy azz 7.5 would have worked???

If cheap and traction are your only two concerns, go for the 7.5." That's a good deal. The Monte Guys trade those around for $1000 each. For $100, you can run it six months while you save for an eaton. By the time it fails, you should have the cash to fix your 8.5.

$1k for a pos 7.5???Someone needs to lay off the crack.Look in the for sale section and youll see that $100 is the going price for that rear. Its the same as every other g body except it has a posi.

The most valuable thing humans have is Time. Don't waste yours on the 7.5. Wait until you have the flow to do it right the first time.

:D :D :D

The Eaton, or Auburn, is a better posi, traction wise, than the factory unit. 7.5 or 8.5.
