My father and I are in the process of redoing our garage and we are looking for a good coating for the floor. Something that will look nice but also be tough and hold up to lots of abuse. I've looked at www.musclegloss.com, www.ucoatit.com, www.theultimategarage.com, and checked out the floor paint at www.griotsgarage.com. All claim to be great but I have no personal experience with any of them and don't know how they actually perform. I really do not want to spend a fortune if I don't have to, and some of these are quite expensive, but I want to make sure I get a quality product. If anyone with any experience on this topic could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Jade, Bruce spent a few bucks on our floor here at the new shop. its an epoxy grit type surface and has taken much punishment already and hasn't failed yet. If you want, give us a call and I will get the info for you. Mark :D

Did you do a search on this? Joe Midolo asked the same question a few months ago and there was a lengthy discussion either here or on gnttype.org

at my house I went to home depot and bought some concrete paint. Washed out the garage, let it dry and then rolled on 2 coats of the paint. No problems....although it's not "professional" paint, still looks decent......

I just did the same. It really depends on the condition of your floor. Older floors may need some type of filling/recovering. I know Home Depot has a epoxy "kit" for this stuff.

Didn't find it here, but I did read through this thread. I'll check out gnttype, thanx.

I've seen the stuff at Home Depot/Lowes, at least the one that rustoleum makes but I'm a little concerned about their long term quality. It's going to be a pain to do this and I want to make sure it lasts so that my dad has a nice place to work. Please keep the suggestions and opions coming.

FYI - I saved this from the GNTTYPE discussion. It looked like a cool product and maybe a better way to go than paint...

I highly recommend adding a grit to whatever "paint" you use. If you don't, any spilled fluid will make it slicker than wet dog crap on ice. Fall a couple of times and you'll want to redo the whole floor all over again.

What can you add to the Home Depot floor paint to make it grip? Sand?

I used Valspar 2 part from Lowes, My garage at home is 28x32 and it took 3 kits ($160), the floor was new but I still acid washed it. It is not like alot of the other stuff I have seen, very durable and no chips. Somebody had a link to some pics of my car on this site, you can see it in the photos. I personally didnt use the grit (available in the same section as the epoxy), my floor is not really slippery, I wanted to be able to polish it and EASILY wipe up oil and grease should the need arise, without snagging a rag etc.
