There's something I just don't get.. It seems like every time the oil prices rise its on speculation only. Why??

I heard today the atlantic hurricane season supposed to be an active one. Now I suppose with the news of this the oil companies will jack the price up as the season grows closer. Lets hope we don't get any major storms this year like they predicted last year.

What justifies the price to go up on a hunch?? Couldn't the gov. step in a regulate this??

Maybe I should buy some stock in oil companies. Then the price will probably drop for sure with my luck..

I just filled my GTP with 92 octane for $2.77 a gallon. The guy said 87 octane would be $2.79 in the morning and 92 would be $3.08 a gallon.

On my way home I passed another place that was already at $2.79 for 87 octane. I decided to drive up the street (out of my way) and see what gas was going for up that way. They had gas (Shell V Power) for $2.69 a gallon with regular at $2.49 a gallon. That was enough for me to get home and grab my Mazda and fill it up too. So now I have two cars that average between 20 and 26 MPG with full tanks. Hopefully it will last me a couple of weeks, one week will be enjoyable with the Grand Prix while the other week will be "I just need to get there" with the Mazda.

93 octane premium is now $3.00 gallon.

Someone told me its supposed to go up again!!!!

Hmm, an oilman for President and its over $3, its not rocket science  3.23 for 87 here.

Well, the gas price up here in WI is now at $3.49 a gallon for premium. This just seems like an annual thing anymore but I was talking to a gas station owner and the way it sounds the the price might hit $4 a gallon around here. Supposed to go up 10 cents tomorrow again!!!!!

Well If it hits that high maybe people will reconsider driving so much. I know I have cut back substantially in driving either of my cars. It now costs me $80.00 to fill up my tank in my beater car.

Hopefully the prices will come back to reality sometime soon. Probably not. I heard on Tuesday may 15 nobody is supposed to buy gas and the price might come back down a little. I don't know if that will happen the oil companies will just make some more excuses to keep the price high.

Nobody buying gas on any particular day or date, or any small quantity of days, and / or dates will only mean that 2wice that many people will get in line for gas the following day, days, and / or dates. Even boycotting any/all stations of any particular brand of gas for even a month may not do anything.

$3.59 for 91 oct Premium. Cost me $53 bux to fill up my little 4 cylinder car! Don't even mention the TR's

That "gas out" story has been around since the dawn of the internet.

Have a read, Urban Legends Reference Pages: Don't Buy Gas on May 15 They are pretty good about debunking or proving anything sent to them.

Oh yeah, 87 octane here is 3.29 while non-oxygenated 92 is 3.59. I just out some 110 in the Buick for $6.00 a gallon. Glad I also picked up some more methanol so I wont be needing much more than 92 octane in the future. The methanol was $3.50 a gallon if anyone cares.

My next car may very well be a PHEV or Plug in Hybrid Vehicle. It must be plugin for it to have any real difference in gas purchasing. These things, that are only available from 3rd party venders as "kits" for a toyota prius or ford escape hybird are the best thing available right now.

No car company offers a PHEV off the lot, none. The chevy volt just came out as a concept this year but no decision has been made on it. Other car companies are looking into I guess.

The kits are expensive right now, but a car offered off the lot I would seriously consider. They are just extra batteries and you can plug it in at home. On a full charge you will get 50 miles of pure electric driving in which after it will switch to reguler motor assist HEV mode. If you dont drive slow to avoid the motor from kicking in you will still receive 80mpg of mixed driving on a full charge.

Now the logical question is, "ok, so i plug it in, how much will the electricity cost ?" We did the math, it comes to 25%-30% the cost of gasoline a month. Using very high cost of electricity we still came to 50% the cost of gasoline. We were using 9 cents a kwhr numbers here to calculate so try it out.

In canada you receive a $4000 incentive by the gov't for purchase of a HEV, could put that towards your cost. Im in for a PHEV if its available in 2010.

And you will kill that expensive battery pack by deep cycling it when you go plug in. Why do you think that nobody sells a plug-in yet?

Tons of electronics on a hybrid monitor battery state of charge etc. You can't discharge or charge them too much without damaging the batteries.

If you want mileage, go diesel - half of Europe has - simple and proven.

I'm in seattle, right around 3.75 for super!! 38 bucks for a little more than half a tank.Company work vehicle helps bigtime.

I'm so sick of these oil companies bid rigging, and using excuses of supply and demand to justify their greedy profits!

I hope something can be done sometime in the near future.... these gas prices and the sudden, sharp rise are just total Bullsh@t!

Happy Memorial Day Everyone! :)

Gas in the So Cal area has come down about $.06 in the last several days, making me wonder what their tactic is for the reduction. If I was to guess, I would guess that they will bring the prices down slightly to get people into a flase sense of security in hopes that they do some auto traveling this coming weekend. Arco this am was $ 3.459 for crapola 91 supreme unleaded at the cheapest station that I am aware of.

Im not 80 but in the 50s it was 27cents a gal Now I saw yesterday it was $3.12 for 87 octane Too bad our wages dont go up as fast as oil prices

3.30 a gallon as of Friday here in Sioux City, that was for cheapo gas. Makes me wanna buy a honda instead of another Buick:eek:

Just jumped again today.  Premium is now a bargain at 3.70/gallon!! The cheap stuff is 3.40!!!

When the Alaska north slope was found to have a lot of oil one of the conditions that the government set to allow drilling was that all the oil would be sent to the lower 48 states, period. No exporting to our "friends" in Asia, ie
Japan. Now where do you think the majority off this oil is going???

The next time you buy a new car for the wife or son/daughter consider this....
South Korea does not allow the importation of US manufactured automobiles onto it's shores........Japan allows the sale of US manufactured automobiles, but compared to what they sell here in the US what we export to Japan is paltry......They won't sell because they jack the prices up so high you can't afford to buy one.

Did you know the Standard Oil company was forced by the Government to "break up" their company because it was a monopoly?? The break up Spawned Mobil, EXON, Texaco, Conoco (sp) and now the oil companies aer at it again.....Merging to form an alliance that will be unbreakable!!

New Zealand is looking mighty nice!!!
