Does anyone know what the diameter of the gas tank opening is? The hole that the sending unit fits in. Also, what is the depth of the tank?

Thanks

I am doing a hybrid project and have been stuck on this problem for a while now. The tank I am using was not from a Fuel Injected car and I can't use the sending unit. The simplest solution is to use the GN unit but I don't want to spend $300 on one to find out it wont work. So if anyone can help me out on this It would ber VERY MUCH appreciated.

Thanks.

the actual opening is 3 & 1/8, depth is right at 8 inches. See photos.. Shot of the opening is deceiving - sorry about that.. but I double checked the measurement.. ~3.125" for you engineer types....

Thanks a ton! The dimensions of that opening are the same as what I have and it looks just like my tank opening. My tank is 9" deep but I can deal with that no problem. Sometimes you get lucky. I really really appreciate the help.

The sad thing is that I talked to at least 10 companies that sell gas tanks and/or sending units to try to find this out and have gotten no where. I should have started with the experts.

Thanks again,
Matt

If it will help that opening is pretty much a standard dimension as far as GM fuel tanks go. Anything from the 70's on up to the late 90's should have the same size of hole.

That is very good to know, Thanks. I may end up doing that if I can't find a decent used sending unit at a good price. It is amazing that they want $300 for a new one. I saw one on e-bay yesterday with a starting price of 399. YIKES!!!

turbofish38, you were absolutly correct. I just picked up a brand new unit from Napa that fits a 91 S10 Blazer. I paid $60 with tax. It fits perfectly in my tank. My tank is 1" deeper than the GN otherwise this would be a great option for everyone with a GN. Thanks again to Turbofish38 and v8eetrr for all the help!!!!
