Hello everyone,

Doing a gear oil change...just wanted to know what you guys are using. Brand? Weight? Synthetic?

Any info would be a great help.

Thanks!

I just changed mine again on Sunday. I also used standard 80W90 just like I did after the first 100,000 miles. The G80 diff. looks absolutely brand new after 208,000 miles. :)

Since it is a friction modifer, you only want to use it if you do NOT plan to race the car.

Nick, does this mean that the using the additive will reduce the amount of "clamp" holding the clutch packs? I never knew and have always added the additive on every gear oil change...

You are correct Russ. The GM techs use it for a posi that chatters when turning on the street. The additive allows more slip to eliminate this.

Most local racers and a chassis builder use just regular gear oil in their rears. It is changed once or twice a year to keep the EP [extreme pressure] additive in the oil fresh.

i use GM's sythetic axle libe cause i get it at work for free;)
if i had to pay for it, i would use regular gear oil since the sythetic is like $30 a bottle:eek:

regular 80-90

like mentioned if you drive on the street much go by the dealers and get some posi additive.

i dont run additive but i dont mind all the growning and popping it does around slow turns and i replace my own clutches if needed
