Had a plastic table cover on the dining table for about a year or two. When we took the plastic table cover off the thousands of small designs transferred to the table. The table cover is pretty similar to a plastic shower curtain. The table is a dark stain wood. Not sure of the type of wood. Not a press wood or plywood piece. Any idea how to clean the table without damaging the finish?

Try Mr clean eraser on a small spot with some water. Be careful just in case it damages the surface.

Speaking of cleaning wood tables, mine has some weird dull white spots on it. Don't know if its the clear breaking down or what. Its about ten years old.

When was the last time you really cleaned it? Murphys oil soap may help but I'd do a test to see how things look. Once done use some good old paste wax on it to help keep the surface in good shape.

You shouldn't be doing that on the table:cool:

Try some Go-Jo or any other waterless hand cleaner;
its an old trick my mom found to refinish antique wood
also helps condition & preserve it.

You need to know what the finish is, lacquer is the modern most often used for decent furniture.

Mild soap and hot water for a short duration won't hurt it.

No soaking however, usually there's clear lacquer over the actual lacquer based stain finish.

I had an old time furniture guy tell me to use white vinegar and 0000 steel wool on heat rings let on an antique table. It worked beautifully and perhaps it will work in your situation.
