I just got a stock engine for an87 gn. I want to build it mainly for one fast ass street car, and the occasional trip to the strip ( maybe once or twice a month) and while there, rip off some high 10/ low 11 passes. I plan on upgrading the timing chain to a double rollor, getting the heads ported and polished, and I am looking into either steel caps or a girdle to strengthen the bottom end. Where do I get the caps and girdle? Are the caps as simple to install as drop the pan and put the things in? Is the girdle something I can install myself? I want to keep cost down. Any replies will be helpfull.

Unfortunately neither of those parts can be installed with out machining. The motor has to be torn down and the caps or girdle fitted to each block. The main caps are sold over size and the girdle takes some machining of the stock caps or steel caps for over kill.

A girdle/stock main caps combo would be my suggestion(this is what i run).

The steel main caps alone might be cheaper to install but do not afford the protection the girdle does.

The Girdle can be purchased from RJC. The best.;)
