MANCHESTER — An Auburn man is charged with beating up his girlfriend after she won an arm-wrestling contest with him and called him a “wimp,” according to court documents.
Raymond White, 44, of 26 Old Candia Road, pleaded innocent in Manchester District Court yesterday to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. The trial is Sept. 16; bail is $1,000 cash or surety.
Officer Mark Beaudry responded to a report of a man assaulting a woman at Valley and Jewett streets yesterday at 3:05 a.m. According to Beaudry’s report, he found Lisa Smith, 31, standing in front of 303 Jewett St. She was crying and had scrapes and cuts on her arms and legs. Smith was intoxicated and initially reluctant to talk with Beaudry.
A man later identified as White came out onto the porch of 303 Jewett St. as Beaudry talked to Smith.
Smith told officer Beaudry that she had been dating White for two weeks and that he had been staying with her for about 10 days.
They had been drinking when Smith told White he didn’t have any muscles. She challenged him to an arm-wrestling contest and won, according to court records.
Smith then jokingly told him that he was a “wimp.” White became enraged, grabbed her by the hair, dragged her down the stairs and outside, where he knocked her to the ground and punched her at least four times in the head, Beaudry wrote in his report.
Police said at one point, White grabbed Smith by the neck and lifted her off the ground. According to court records, Smith also told police White continued dragging her around outside the residence and slammed her head into the pavement.
An ambulance was called. Smith was checked by emergency workers, but not taken to the hospital.
