I am posting this for the guy who bought my GN last July, he is not able to get the car to go into park. I had the trans rebuilt back in 2007, no problems up to this point. He said he had the car out Friday night, brought it home and would not go into park. Any help would be appreciated, I am stumped!!
Thank you!!
Randy

Tried turning the collar of the steering column to the left? Sometimes it gets "sticky" & wont rotate all the way to park also wont let you remove key)

or cycle the shifter back & forth a few times... but he probably already tried that

I told him about the steering column but he didn't understand, I'll tell him again tomorrow, we were texting...I'll call next time. Thank you.

Check your linkage on the trans. I had an aftermarket cable with a little device ( a bolt with a hole thru it and a nut and washer) that tightened up on both sides of the cable. If it slips on the cable it may not allow it to go ino park. Before I adjusted properly I couldn't get it out of park once either.

All of those ideas plus try and see if his shifter retaining clip is there, i just replaced the cable on my stock trans but lost the damn clip. Shifted easily until i realized that the actual t-handle wasnt pushed all the way down. It took me a solid ten minutes to figure that out. The steering collar trick worked for me before the cable was replaced, obviously turn it left with the shifter as close to park as possible.

Makes sense. Good to check that it seems. I forwarded this info to the guy who has my car. Said he hs it going into park now, just a little stiff.
Thanks to everyone for the input, much appreciated.

FWIW One final thought...
The shift cable may be on its last leg; as I recall, mine acted up a few times, then snapped
(at the end) I went through 5 aftermarket($25+-) ones
(one lasted long enough to shift ONE time!) before going OEM! (HiighwayStars, I think)
OEM worth the xtra $$!!!

Probably good to have one on hand then, I will pick one up for my next ride. Thanks for the info!!
