I was reading my April hot rod and one of the articles talks about comparing the "old" muscle to some of the newer cars that have come out in the last 30 years, particularly in the last 10yrs. In the article the author states, "that the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s will always have more collector value than anything mass produced thereafter. The only late-model muscle I've seen increase in post-showroom value after a couple of decades is the Buick Grand National...."

He then goes on to say that most of the "performance" cars of the past 20 years will "fall down the same crevasse as the IROC Camaros "

Pretty cool, not so sure he's 100% right about irocs though I'm seeing third gens rise in price quite a bit as well as monte ss etc.....

While I do believe the 60s muscle will always be valuable, I think they've peaked for the last time. The cream of the crop will always be out of common folk reach but the average muscle cars will fall off when that generation starts keeling over. People pay big money to have what they had or wanted as adolscents to relive their youth. My generation was driving around in G bodies, F bodies, fox box mustangs and FWD turbo dodges and have no emotional connection with 60s cars. To me and many others, newer stuff does everything better so why dick with the 60s? Supply and demand controls everything and demand for 60s cars will fall off, while the supply is pretty constant at this point in time. The number of nice 60s cars is probably increasing every year and the 80s stuff is still getting smashed...

It still blows me out that more than once a week i get people wanting to buy my Regal. They(mid eighties anything) just aren't that common any more. Where even ten yrs ago there were plenty roaming the streets now it is mostly econo rice and new challenger/camaro/mustangs anda lot of suv/pickups. Even law enforcement has gone to the Tahoe.

My GN gets tons of attention when I drive it pretty much the same as my 69 camaro. My generation is at that age now where guys can finally buy these cars. I've Wanted one since i saw them all lined up at detto buick. Lots of nostalgia for the 80s. My first car was a 79 regal 305 chevy motor. I put a turbo hood on it and junkyard cragers from Garret's auto parts (since closed) loved that car. Gbodys were everywhere when I was a kid.

This era is pretty cool though, lots of fast factory stuff out there. The GN was way before its time .

Yea it's great to see them starting to get attention in the collector car market and even with the older hot rod crowd. You can really see them starting to take off in car auctions as well. I know when i take mine to a car show it is always real popular and is most of the time the only Turbo Buick there. I think people as they are getting older are starting to appreciate what they are, like TurboSkunk above said, they were way ahead of their time.
