Functional GNX engines did have an EGR, that engine was just prettied up for a display, like at the autoshow, where they have engines with chrome-plastic accesories bolted on them.

GNX #001 ran just fine in BowlingGreen this last May.........I videoed the Buick guys driving it onto their semi-truck car hauler......along with the Blackhawk, the twin turbo Riviera and I think another car or 2.
