I was originally going to just have the top surfaces of the car stripped and redone, but I figured why not just do the whole car and be done with it. I just have a few questions on disassembly:

How do you remove the quarter glass?

How do you remove the power mirrors? I know how to unbolt them, but how do you actually get the cable out?

How do you remove the door handles? Also, my driver side handle is a bit loose, how can I tighten this up when putting it back together?

Finally (this is kind of a stupid question), if i remove the locks and door handles, how do you open to door or get into the trunk?

Thanks for any help or input

Quarter glass is removed by taking the interior panels out first. You will then see the 5 nuts that hold the glass in. There is lots of tar used from the factory, so it takes some pressure to budge it loose. I used my foot to push them free.....just be careful and use slow, even pressure.

The remote mirror control on the driver side door panel has a clip that you remove and the "joystick" will then be loose. Then, inside the door are a couple clips that hold the cable. Undo the clips, and feed the cable thru until it comes out the door where the mirror mounts.

The passenger side cable runs from the dash into the pass door......basically same process, but it is a bit of a pain to feed it thru into the door. Just be gentle and take your time.

I'll upload some pics of the door handles that I took out when I disassembled my car last year. Just undo the 2 nuts and the clip that holds the rod onto the handle.....hope this helps!!

With the lock removed,a long flat blade screwdriver will get you in the trunk.
With the door handles removed, I use a pair of small vise grips to grab the handle actuator rod...grab the rod and push down, door will open. The passenger remote mirror cable runs along the top of the carpet and has a couple of clips in the upper passenger foot well and runs up and behind the center floor heater vents and up into the dash..held in place with a set screw...Good Luck!

Thanks for the input guys. So Im assuiming there is now way to disconnect the mirrors at the mirror itself? That would be a lot easier, but oh well. I guess it would be a bad idea to leave them on during paint, would probably cause runs, so I guess Ill have to get in there and get em out. Thanks again.

Pull the mirrors...you'll be glad you did. As for getting in the car with the handles and locks removed....leave the windows down....works every time. ---Keith

One thing you might want to consider when removing the passenger side mirror: Tie twine or string to the joystick and as you pull the mirror out the twine will feed through the same area that the cable goes through. Untie it and remove the mirror. When it comes time to re-install the mirror, re-tie the twine and use it to help pull the cable through the correct routing.

Haha, didnt even think of leacing the windows down....good point. Thanks gnx405, I was planning on doing that. Did that with my cruise control lever and it worked pretty well.

Thanks for the offer Mike, Ill let you know when the time comes. Probably going to start sometime late March or early April
