This is for some of the guys who have made the conversion before. I have read the thread that covers the install, but I have one question. Do I need only the exciter wire from the harness? My alternator is wired with one terminal from the harness and the other terminal on the plug goes to an eyelet connector that is on the big positive post on the back of the alternator. I guess my question boils down to, do I only have to run the one smaller wire and the big battery wire or do I need both smaller wires per the original wiring.

Depends on how the plug on the back is JJ. Is it the typical GM two wire plug? If it is you can cheat. The white wire goes to the big post and then the other wire isn't used. The only drawback to this is that the alternator is constantly powered.

Sorry should have made it clear...

Going to a CS series 140amp alternator. When I read the thread on it, all I got from it was that the wire from the harness was the only one that was hooked up.

Would just pick the pigtail up that AZ has and solder the connection.

I know there exists Dorman part# 84731 as well.

Was the other wire(not the wire from the harness) on the old SI series alternators for getting reference voltage for the regulator or is that the wire that powered the field?
