I'm going on the first real vacation of my life. I got laid off from my job, I happen to have a little extra money and a friend of mine has been bugging me to go to Greece this summer. So I'm out of here for 2 months. Of course I'll be checking in from time to time. Any suggestions where to go or what to do? That is besides the obvious. I haven't gotten drunk in over 9 months so this trip is going to be fun. Hopefully I'll come back and my dad will have finished my GN for me lol wishful thinking.

Watch the movie Midnight Express before you go. I know it was in Turkey (I think) but be careful and don't get into any trouble over there.

I was in Suda Bay (sp?) Crete for a couple of days while I was over there for desert storm. It was probably my favorite port. The mountains come right down to the bay there. Very beautiful. Also they had GREAT greek food and cheap beer. You could get a big meal and 4 or 5 beers for under $10 Find a hole in the wall food stand and get some good food!

I must say though, they have THE ugliest women of any port I was in. This is a general reference, as Im sure there were some nice ones there somewhere. I just didnt happen to see any of them. Of course if you want beautiful women go to Israel. but be warned, they all pack uzi's

I am in the food service business and have many clients that are Greek. Whenever I ask about where to go, Athens always comes up first. Lots of history there and of course the biggest city in the country. Athens sounds like the place to be. Good luck and drink a few for the TB.com guys!

Definately check out George's Pink Palace (hotel/resort) in Corfu. It is like spring break there "Europe style" with people from all over the world from 18-30 years old all summer long. I went in '95 and it was $17/night and that included breakfast and a nice room with view of the water. The hotel is about 100 yards from the water with very nice warm clear blue water and plenty of hot women and topless tatas. I got laid there too .

Then check out Santorini if you can. This was my favorite place in Greece. Either get there via ferry or it would be best via plane as it is quite some distance from Corfu/Athens. Rent motorcycles there (80cc or 125cc dirtbikes) and ride around the island (must do). It is spectacular and has red/black/white sand beaches. The sand is actually small pebbles that are very smooth..... since it is all volcanic. I stayed at a place called the "Diamond" which was very nice and traveling with 3 of my buddies it was about $22/night but it was brand new and PIMP to bring the ladies back to. I stayed a week there and it was so relaxing.

I would check out Athens for about 2 days and get the hell out of there as it is pretty dirty but has a lot of history you truly must see.

Get a youth hostel card and stay in youth hostels wherever you can to save money. Make your own lunches and eat at restaurants as little as possible. I brought a glad storage container, cutting knife and real fork, spices (pepper/salt/cayenne/sugar/paprika) in a small container you can get at REI for about $3 already filled . We just graduated from college and were broke and did it on the cheap spending about $40/day for 8 weeks like you plan. I would suggest checking out Italy as well since it is totally cool also and close to Greece. The southern most place in Italy is Brindisi and it is the port where the ferries leave to go to Athens. Kind of a dumpy place but we found a killer restaurant for cheap there.

Bring a flask to carry in booze to mix with Coke at any nightclubs you go to in order to save money and have cocktails before you go out or it will be pricey.

Have fun and bring lots of suntan lotion and definately jimmy hats .

Well, I'm here and it's heaven. How can it get any better than an "internet cafe". Being on TB.com while in a bar while drinking with people all around. Maybe I'm just a nerd. Once over the jetlag we're going to the islands. I'll have pictures to post when I get back! BTW, first drunk post on TB.com. One last thing, the cars in the US suck (other than TRs of course). Everything is watered down there. Here, there are cars I never knew they made like factory turbo'd everything, even Focuses and Ferraris everywhere. Hope this all makes sense. Besides the beer, the keyboard is a little different.
