Hi All,

Well after coming so close 2 weeks ago trying to get "Newman" into the 9's the Richs Auto crew including Fartie LaHaie decided to give it a go again.

Besides his tuning duties Fartie LaHaie Art bought out his stage car FUR for some shakedown runs in prepartion for Buick weekend in a few weeks.

Last weekend Art and I took Newman to the Richs Auto technology center which also included a trip to the Richs Auto chassis shop which in fact is not all too different than a Jerry Hass chassis shop.

Spending the day modifying the aero package to fit the big ole Mickey Thompsons back there to handle the Artie Paltz horsepower was a success. Once that was done I called my friend Jeg Coughlin and ordered the new 29's, he assured me if I just gave him my credit card that the tires would be on their way. True to his word "Jeggie" as I like to call him came thru and the tires arrived this week.

So we head to Etown and 1st pass off trailer we ran 9.93.......finally we got it to run the number Artie and I were looking for the past year. It didnt come easy and had a set back or two but we stuck with it. Artie himself 1st run off the trailer went 9.95, good to see Artie back running the numbers, sure he will be back ready to better his 9.60 of last year.

I head back for a 2nd run and car 60s at 1.390 but ran with tires cold cause line lock wouldnt catch, Mike Dunn caught it in the booth and said "this might not be so pretty as a car with Paltz horsepower needs sticky tires. Well Mike was right, at about 400 feet car gets all crazy, slides right then left but I decide to stay in it thinking what would John Force do? I fluttered the butterflys a bit and got back into it but to no avail that Artie Paltz horsepower and the clutch stage going 1:1 was too much for the chassis and big Mickey Thompsons to bear and she went sideways forcing me to lift.

After the interview with Parker and of course didnt get a Powerade hat and drink cause the run was aborted, Parker asked me "Whats it like with all that Artie Paltz horsepower?" I said well with all that C16 belgin out the pipes you can hardly keep the car cool but you can always keep the car cool with Powerade".

So Artie says "Ya know Richie it's really not a central Jersey, Monmouth, Middlesex, Union county record until you can back it up within a certain %, so ya gotta go out and do it again. I was lucky enough to go 9.92@134.4. So with that pass and backing it up its an official central NJ record.

Then Artie goes out and posts a 9.80 with some tire smoke from his big ole MTs, so its back to the Richs Auto chassis shop for some chassis preload work for Labor Day weekend, don't worry Artie will be posting the big numbers Labor Day, after all he is the lead car here ET & MPH wise for Richs Auto. Sure we are known for the Jack but Art's got all candles lit in FUR.

So then I decide we need to start the license run process and bring all my papers to the tower and they said they will let me get as many runs in as time permits.

On my 1st 330 pass the car 60's at 1.35, love that transbrake!!!, take another 330 and was able to get one half track pass in and launched car hard and she went 1.34 60 foot and carried wheels to 60 foot mark which is the farthest its ever carried them and it was unreal to say the least.

We all, Art Paltz, Ed Baker Artie C, Tommy X, and buddy Monye came back to RCA for some pizzas and beers.

It was good to those guys and benchrace and everyones excited for Buick weekend and the Richs Auto BBQ.

Thanks to all the Richs Auto crew that showed up, even tho everyone forgot their camcorders...........lol.

Congrats to ya Rich and Art, it's no easy task hittin the 9's. Looks like we'll be havin some fun Labor day weekend.....

Hello RCA!

Glad to see that my "Idol" finally made it into the erotic zone of Art Paltz times. 9's must be awesome!

Word of advise for the RCA group...you need the tall stacked blonde up front to line up the cars, flip on the second magneto and to engage the nitro fuel lines  in order to be "big time." And NO, Jim Rome cannot fill in until she is found...:D :D

Rich,
Ol' Force has got his edge back and is not lifting, fluttering what ever u call it. Hes staying in it even when it side ways.

Keep your cool cause i never wanna see you yelling at the Matco guys again. When u talk to Jegie tell him to give up and buy one of Gruppys motors, thats going to be the only way to get nitrous in the rollcage & shifter bottle Anderson!!!

BTW Im very happy 4 u. Those wheels up launches are addicting!;)Did u get any pics ?

See ya Labor Day and hopefully we'll have the weather we had last weekend and we'll all be running good.

>>> Scott,
Thanks but do you mean "idol" as in American Idol? Cause I can sing too just ask Artie how well I can sing Led Zep, I am quite good even if I say so myself.

As far as the blonde goes couldn't we just put Jim Rome in a nice blonde wig and get up there? He likes that kinda thing ya know.

Good luck in Salem, car back together and you going?

>>> Hi Louie,
Yeah Force does has his edge back, the run he had a 2 weeks ago whenhe was sideways and the butterflys never fluttered was amazing, guy is unreal.

Oh I won't be yelling at the Metco guys like Bazemore.....lol....If I want to grab the brake thats my deal......lol. Yes Jegie does need some help as to alot of guys in Pro Stock to catch Anderson he is just unreal.

Yes the wheels up launches are addicting best roller coaster I ever bought for myself, even tho you know what to expect when you take your finger off the button its great everytime.

No we didnt get any pics of videos, reason being I asked other RCA members who own camcorders to bring them and both "forgot", I told em thanks alot as this was probably my careeer day at track and no one is able to capture it for me......lol.

Stay well Louie and I will talk to you soon.

>>> Thanks Bill but it's too late, scraped it twice Saturday and when you have no hair to cushion the blow it hurts even more.

Are you coming to Etown Labor Day Bill? Love to see that car of yours run. Stay well and thanks.

Hopefully Thanks to RICH (gave me a set of slicks) I will get my elusive 9 sec slip mem day.
Wen to the track yesterday and rolled the fins in the convertor. on the first pass, Staged it against the brake, let go of the button and it went right to 6500, So i coasted back around to make another pass cause i wasnt sure what had happened at that point, Launched at 5#s instead od 20#s and the car did a 1.59 60 foot revved right to 6500, so i shifted second stayed it went to 6250,shifted 3 a few feet down and went to 6250, so i held it thru the pass , eventualy is pulled up to 6700. and i let out of it around the 1000 ft mark to a whopping 11.03 at 124.
So after they put the exhaust on thursday shes coming home and i will put in a spare convertor i have until i can order an custom one.
I have the F.A.S.T datalog if anyone would like to see it
It shows an nice even graph across he whole pass:D

Otto,

I went a half a season including racing at Bristol with a broken sprag in the trans. Real fun, launch at 6800 RPMs and pretty much shift right into third and ride it through. Even got my license with that converter. People would comment that the shift light would come on off the trans brake and stay on the whole run.

Well Jim Rome and nyself pulled the trans and dissasembled it tonight and all is good inside, replaced teh convertor with another that a friend had Its an 8" and on a full pass, this convertor if shifted at 6600 drops down to 6000 and the car pulls great at 26#s right up to 6600 and shift to 6000. I was told it was about 3800 behind a mild small block, But my car is making double the torque his motor was.He made around 400Ft lbs at the flywheel, The dyno says i am making 737 at the wheels.
Got any spare convertor i can try?
Looking for something no more than 5000 at 30#s of boost

8" converter at 3800 stall? That sounds pretty low for an 8" converter. I'm not an expert by any stretch but I thought an 8" converter would probably start at about 5000 RPM's. I think an 8” converter is pretty loose.

Mine appears to finally be working correcting. Stalling to about 5500 off the trans brake. I'm just happy that on shifts the RPM's are actually drop and the shift light goes out. Only took me cutting the converter apart twice to get it right. Now if that damn sprag would stay in place...

Well, I can attest that I saw Jimmy Rome put in 2 pairs of slicks into his truck, one almost brand new and another set of worn ones. If only one pair got to you well....

Just remember Otto, it's me and you against Jimmy...

Absolutely, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! I wouldn't trust the Rome guy as far as I can throw him, which isn't very far considering the steel plate in his head...

Is it because of the steel plate that makes his head so big and flop around from side to side, front to back like a bobble head?

Remember Otto, it’s me and you against Jimmy….
