Mr friends father took me with him to go look at a GN. Its a 87 posi, moonroof, loaded 40k 1,500mi on rebuild. It has
Rebuilt 109 block .040 over
T43 Turbo with racegate
Double pumper fuel pumps
Adj Fuel Pressure Regulator
3in down pipe with dump
Pitbull 2 1/2 in exuast
Red Armstrong chip
50lb MSD's
Roller 306 cam
Champion heads
Ported intake
Scanmaster
VDO Boost, water temp and oil temp gauges
Extended intercooler
Sport springs
Air bags
Bilstien shocks
Intake
He is asking $18,000 It just had a really nice repaint 2yrs ago. Only problems are bent drivers seat and moonroof slides foward when stopping. It also has all new body bushings and GNX braces.
Is this a good prise for the car. The guys claims 11, teens.

Well he said that what it should run it ran low 12's with no internal mods b4 so he said it should run 11 teens, another GN guys at the show said it would also, It think its capable. What is a T43 Turbo??

I have no idea what a T43 turbo is.....if you are looking for a fast car, demand to see time slips and receipts......it should have a roll bar if it is as fast as he advertises or it hasn't really been raced (that "could" be a good thing....)

you want to know about the transmission also

I would also want to know why it needed a rebuild at only 140K miles.

If it's hard to tell how many real miles are on it get the VIN # and do a carfax search on it.

I hope it's only the moonroof shade sliding forward the roof itself (glass) shouldn't move at all.

Just make sure it all checks out. One way to do that is to see when he's going racing next. :)

"Woulda, shoulda, coulda...." ever hear that before?
I don't care what anyone claims a car "should" do! The facts are only proven at the track, with a legitimate timeslip. I read the signature lines of everyone on this board, and I'm always amazed that some guys run extremely well with few mods, and others have spent thousands upon thousands in mods and work, to only run mid 12's. It all boils down to combining the correct pieces to work with a pre-determined strategy. Just putting big pieces on will not gaurantee a faster car, and often will actually slow it down. There's a delicate balance to be found, and whomever you've talked with about this car is obviously not offering proof of it yet. Real data tells all!
I also think the price is way too high. I've seen nice 10 second GN's for sale anywhere from $10,000-$12,000. At $18,000, I'd ask for a nice trailer to be included to carry it around. All of us TR owners would love to see the value remain high on these cars, and historically it has done so, however, this one is a bit overboard, IMO.
Do some more research on this vehicle, before your buddy goes and sells the farm to finance it.

All of our cars are 11 sec capable if you look at it from his perspective. It has been beat on or else it has more than 40k. Ask why it was rebuilt and who did it. If it was done poorly it could fail in 500 miles. For 18k that car needs to be PERFECT, and its not

Offer him $7500 PERIOD!!! With THAT many miles & probably some rust at the bottom of the doors & Underside it dosen't matter WHAT mods are on it, if he gets MORE than 7500 for it hes REAL LUCKY!!!!

Some people race in street trim others run bonzai passes with 65psi fuel pressure and C16 with giant slicks.

Lots of reasons for various times and slips on this board including altitude and track conditions.

It's not only bolts ons and poor tuning vs. tuning with mostly stock stuff.

Back to the car however it should be checked over thoroughly and look for receipts and a current slip if he intends to race it.

No rust whatsoever for 18K.

We just saw the car at the car show. Were going to his house on saturday. The car looks like it was done right. The only two problems are the seat and the shade slides foward and back. Other wise the car is perfect. It also has a 3000rpm lockup and shift kit. The car is really nice. Perfect repaint and no rust. One thing there is a rotary type dial conected with a T conectio off the racregate, he said it to control the boost, How does it work?

I have two astroroof cars and the shade slides on both of them.

Especially under heavy acceleration and braking.

I would definately compare the cars performance against another known car or the clock before buying. I would double check the reubild questions as well and also verify the 40K mileage.

18000, FORGET ABOUT IT! i might be able to see 12000 with everything he says...all the transmission has is a convertor and shift kit...might be the next problem which is going to arise, it has an adjustable wastegate, yes it adjusts boost, pretty simple really, should be right cranks it up left cranks it down. I second the thought on testing another car, might give you an idea on how fast this one is or is NOT. Just some ideas but you might want to check out the cars for sale here, turbobuicks.com and theres one other site but i do not have it bookmarked on this computer. Anyhow make SURE the car has what he says it has, EVERY part...might want to look into the T-43 turbo, doesnt souns familiar to me..?? 18000 is way steep and it needing repaint and an engine rebuild with 40000, also the engine being 40 over...the car better be a MONSTER for that price.

I agree also with the $18000 being steep. What really worries me is that it is .040 over. Unless it has really high mileage or was abused really bad, it shouldnt need more that .030 over. sounds kinda fishy, I would run.

The car is in excelent shape. It is perfect except for seat and moonroof. The transmison was done by level 10, and we will see al reciets when we go to his house. The car looks great and runs good.

There are plenty of them out there that "look great", and "run good"! As everyone else pointed out, it would have to be above mint condition and run mid to low 10's to warrant such a price. Basically what this guy is saying is, here is my 15 year old car and I want you to pay what it stickered for new. A few nice bolt-ons and rebuilt motor does not increase its value to that degree! Please take some time to "shop around" before you or your friend write a check that huge,,,,,, unless of course money is no object to y'all. I too would be extremely leary of the .040 over bore. There would've had to be a major failure to warrant that size overbore. Most first time rebuilds will clean up at .020, but generally people go .030 simply because the pistons and rings are far more available at that size. Oddly enough, .040 over is much harder to come by, and would typically require upgrading to custom pieces like JE pistons and rings. Why would the seat be broken at only 40k of use too??? The odometers on these cars were readily accessible to tamper with. How does the wear on the rubber on the brake pedal look? How does the carpet look where the driver side left foot would rest?
I know everyone has already said it, but I would certainly dig deep into the research bucket on this one. Shop and compare...

It has all new carpeting, headliner and such. I belive it was .040 over but I could be mistaken. Were gonna go with $14k in cash but offer 13 see what he does.

Well,,, that's a little better, but I think I'd low-ball him even more at first. All he can say is "No". Offer $12,000, and when he grumbles, then start the back and forth bartering. If you're there, with the money in hand anyway, it's not like he will just walk away. We're all just trying to save you some money, as it appears the car is not at all what he claims. No 40k car would need new carpeting! It's just not sensible. I have to agree that it's probably 140k or just a rolled back odometer. Either way, I'm sure y'all will make the deal you want. If the money doesn't matter, and both parties are happy, then life is "grand"...
Hope it goes well for ya'.

I'd bet my LAST DOLLAR that car is 140K NOT 40K, you would CERTAINLY not need new Carpeting & Headliner, Etc. at that low of mileage, and a Broken Driver seat track too...Defineatly 140K...
You're a FOOL if you pay $12,000 for that car!!!

Good Lord!! I forgot to mention, you DID RUN A COMPLETE CARFAX on this car didn't you???

Alot of fishiness in the story....at least by what the seller is telling you, rebuilt tranny, rebuilt engine, repainted, interior redone...for 40k someone either took this car to michigan and drove it in the worst weather every chance they got for 40k, or it has more than 40k on it...ohh well, if its what you want then go for it...you as a buyer is all that matters, just remember if you catch him in something he is not telling the truth about, there is bound to be plenty more.
