i just did a search on this but couldn't really find anything that answered my question (actually i found very little, although i know there is a lot out there on the topic)
anyways my friend is getting his $700 t-type he found in a field running, he just got a scanmaster for it and its showing 22* of knock at wot. no pinging is heard, boost is at stock levels so i'm most certan its false knock. i told him to crawl under it with a wrench and check every last bolt (good idea anyways) my thoughts are the rubber bushing in the tranny crossmember geing out, but it feels like its still there. the motor cannot be rocked back and forth so i'd guess the motor mounts are ok also. i have to question his micky mouse dump pipe cutout. (done with a sawzall and wire to hold it all up
) but what else could cause that kind of false knock?
i don't know if this helps any but i took a screwdriver and set it on the mainifold in the general area of the knock sensor and taped it with a hammer and it didn't show any knock on the scanmaster.
also at what point do you actually hear the ping?
AND i have been wondering this for a while and never thought to ask here. what exactly is knock? is it actual detonation, or does knock occur before detonation? people say a few deg. of knock is no big deal, but talk aobut detonation like its horrible. are they one in the same? i've been thinking of knock as pre-dtonation, is that right?
