for the last few months ive been preoccupied with other things, so the work on my 85' GN had slipped into limbo. after Christmas, however, i got the bug to start turning wrenches on it again and apparently word has gotten out to a few of my friends that the car should be ready in a couple weeks. this has evoked a few challenges once Cecil County Dragway reopens in late Feb. heres the cars that want to run me:

1st): 95' Z28 (LT1, 6speed w 3.42 gears). its got light mods that include an airfoil, LT4 knock module, and a SLP loudmouth catback. this car has run a best of 13.5 at 104mph

2nd): if i beat that guy, his friend will want to run me. hes got an 00' Z28 (LS1, 6speed w 3.42s). this one is a bit more modded, sporting an airlid, K&N filter, TB bypass, 160* stat, Pro 5.0 shifter, and a SLP loudmouth catback. this car has run 12.9s at 110mph!!

my car when finished will have the following mods:
K&N 9", 160* stat, deleted A/C, TB bypass, tweaked TPS, AFPR, 30# injectors, Kenne Bell chip, hotwired Syclone fuel pump, ATR uppipe, ATR 2.5" downpipe, custom 2.5" straightpipe catback, TA33 turbo, and a set of ET Streets

i plan to run at the track with 100 octane unleaded, the front sway bar removed, a straightpipe in place of the cat converter, and 20psi of boost. what do you guys think a combo like this could run? could i take out either car? if not, what else would i need? the guy with the LS1 is reeeeeaaaly cocky, it would be so sweet to take him out with 2 fewer cylinders :D

Hmmm...first thing that comes to mind for me is 13s.....but perhaps there might be some possibilities for 12s...with some good tuning.

I would put more than 100 octane and start cranking the boost (with a scan tool of course) until it knocks or stops pulling any harder. Lock the torque convertor in second gear. This really seems to help with an unopened hotair motor which falls on it's face past 4,500rpm. The ET streets should really help out, make sure you practice your launches before the track. Good luck, especially with the cocky LS1 guy.

100 octane is the highest unleaded fuel we have availible where i live. if i wanted higher octane than that, wouldnt i have to step up to leaded fuel? (and fouled O2 sensors, etc)

how do i go about locking the converter manually?

i shouldnt have a problem launching with the ET Streets... i used to own a 89' Vette that had a 2500 stall converter and drag radials. best 60ft was a 1.75

I would suggest getting a chip made specifically for your combo. Do you have the 86-87 computer, if not that is a worthwhile upgrade as well.

The Ta33 is an amazing turbo on the hotair motor. I ran it on stock intake and injectors and it was impressive. However I think you will get more of a gain if you port the stock intake manifold. I also run 30 lb injectors with the Ta33 and intercooler and I can pull on my buddies '02 Z28 ls1 Camaro. Launching well, I can take him off the line, but by the time he shifts to third, the gap will get a lot closer. I was able to do this ast about 17 psi boost with knock in the higher rpm band. I am not yet properly tuned. So the biggest issue will be tuning. If yu cover that, im sure u can give him a decent run. There are guys here who have hit 12's with the TA33 and similar mods.
