thru the GSCA. It came back $19,500

Needless to say I was pleased, now I need to show it to the insurance company to get it insured for the full amount.

Wonder what it'll cost or how much the premiums will jump?? We'll find out next week. I'll keep ya posted.

Interesting.
Who are you insured with? Curious to know how one of the big standard type of insurers will deal with the issue.

I've been with State Farm since 1988. I don't know what they are going to say but we'll soon find out probably on Tuesday or Wednesday.

If your GN isn't a daily driver you might want to look into classic car insurance. I have a stated value on my one GN for $17,500.00 and it's less the $350.00 a year.

It's by no means a daily driver, never has been & never will be:)

I've yet to call SF, was waiting to go see 'em in person on Wednesday.
However Grundy just give me a quote for $303 per year and American Hobbyist Insurance Agency was $282 per year.

I'll keep ya posted.

DO you have to be a certain age to get those insurances? MY 84 is under resto, and I figure, by the time i am done, I want an appraisal and a good coverage. I am never going to use the car as a daily driver, so....WHat are the requirements for the classic car ins?

Thanks

John

I'm just now learning about this myself. From what I understand it has to be either 20 or 25 years old to be considered a "classic car" or @ least in the state of TN to get those non expiring tags.

I have learned that some companies such as J.C. Taylor Ins comp only insures up till a '85 model. That's what they told me today when I called for a quote.

So far they've just asked me questions like is it my daily driver, dose it stay in the garage/ where do I keep it, etc, etc.

Well, I just left the State Farm office and they wouldn't touch it. They said that it's not old enough to be a classic and blah, blah, but they said I could go with regular insurance on it and if something happened then i'd have to fight it out then on the value.

I said no-thanks, so now i'm looking for specialty insurance.

I've already got a quote from Sneed, Grundy, and some others so that's the route i'll have to go.

Send a check for $85.00 made out to
Richard Lasseter
625 Pine Point Circle, Valdosta, GA 31602

phone #229.244.0577

He'll need the vin#, mileage, detailed description of everything done to the car and it's condition including paint interior, etc and of course pictures. If you have detailed pictures posted on your website he can take them off there. Then after he completes the appraisal he puts the results on GSCA letterhead and mails it to you.

The results are based on comparable/similar cars to yours based on your condition mileage and combo that have sold most recently and what they sold for.

I got mine back in less than 2 weeks and I feel that it was worth it to have some documentation on record as to the value of the car BEFORE (hopefully never) something happens.

Not sure about an age limit for the driver, if that's what you're asking. You can always call and ask. Grundy doesn't have a age limit on the car, just has to be a "collector" model, unlimited mileage, can be driven an unlimited amount of miles per year, but has to be garage kept, can't be left outside, in fact it can't be left out of your sight when you do drive it, so no going to the mall etc with it.
You must have another car that is your daily driver and it must be as fully insured as your collector car, although the daily driver can be insured with someone else.
I have my '87 GN, '89 TTA, and '79 TA with stated values of $15k, $19k, and $18k all insured with them and its only $770 a year, that's cheaper than my truck alone at State Farm!

Been in th eclassic car insurance biz for MANY years and there is NO age or mileage limit. BUT it cannot be your promary car and MUST be in a garage.
