Well the GM High performance Club (gmhpclub) was invited to show our cars at the speedway tonight. We also were given the opportunuty to drive 5 pace laps around the track. This was my 1st time ever doing something like this and what a thrill!! Its nice to have your car in shows and everyone remember how awesome the Turbo Regals were and educate those who never heard of them but its really awesome when you get to pace your car around a 1/2 mile race track and feel like a nascar driver. The 1st lap we drove a slow pace all the way around and the second lap we all did a few small burn outs. Most of the cars in the club are older 60,s and 70,s cars and this night there was Bob Hinson's Gn, a Turbo Trans Am, and my Turbo T. This represented the Turbo Regal crowd. Well on the 3rd lap all us Turbo cars start doing great burnouts as we pass the spectators. Well we got a great response from the crowd. On the final lap we really put on a show. On the last lap I really put on a show. I had my exhaust cut out open so my car would scream when I got into boost. I power braked the car and got the tires really hot. Smoke was clouding the air and my turbo was screaming like a jet plane. Well I let off the brake and perfomed the largest burnout I have ever done as the crowd cheered me on and I took off and banked the turn a little too fast when a track official motioned me to slow down. Well when I was leaving the track after that run I felt like a nascar driver. Its nice to show people the true race cars these cars are!!

This thread is useless without pics!! :)

That sounds like a lot of find. When you said you went into the bank a little fast I thought you were going to say that you put it into the wall! :O

Glad to hear you had such a great experience. I would love to do a few fun laps around a track. Heck, do a few hotlaps. With proper mods.

Sounds like a lot of fun, I wish I was there!!

There is a local circle track here (I think it is 1/4 mile) and sometimes they do "spectator drags" where you can race another guy around the track for 1 lap. I would like to do this but I have seen a GN and he had no traction (and therefore lost to an Acura). The rear wheel drive cars do very poorly. I saw a moostang once and he was really driving it hard, 5k clutch sidesteps and whatnot. I am surprised he didn't blow anything! He was all over the track, he lost too!

Here are some pics from the cockpit view. I will try to get some better pics tommorrow.

We displayed our cars before the races, there are still so many that have never seen a TR or TTA.
My wife, Leigh enjoyed driving her old GN around the track. "My" GN used to be her dailey driver. I wish I could have driven it too, but I pulled duty in my '67 Pontiac burning rubber and throwing Flames out of the 3" tail pipes, nothing like breaking in a fresh 462 engine. I hope to put it into the 10s full weight, Q-jet with A/C soon.
My son, Rob was behind me with his TTA, he did some great rolling burn outs too. My 11 year rode with my wife and had a ball.

Brittken was doing a great job with his Turbo T. I have to get Brittken and family to BG. He would OD on fun! He is a great example of a young TR owner with a great family. We need more like him!
:)
It was an educational night for people at the oval track.
A great night of showing off and having fun for us. They even put my club in the VIP suite and gave us all the food we could eat. I hope we can do it again.

How many of them asked what that "whistling" and "snorting" sound was? :D I bet not many of them knew what they were hearing. They're used to V8 sounds.

Do you have nitrous?

You would not believe how many people ask that question whenever the dump tube is open. I like to keep them wondering.;)

Sounds like a wonderful experience.

hate to ask an off topic question, but there is a car show in Dothan, AL May 22nd and I was wondering if you were going to be there.
