Gov & manual shift Q's

Hi All,

Coupla Q's:

• 1). Can you "bench test" a governor in order to tell what rpm it will shift at?
  
• 2). Will manual shifts always override the governor's rpm setting?
  
• 3). If I manually shift *below* the gov setting, will it shift or stay in that gear until the gov setting is reached?
  
• 4). Looking at my combo, what rpm should I modify my gov to shift at?

you cant because governor pressure is directly related to output shaft speed ,differential ratio and tire size and bleed off of oil in circuits which interfeed w/ the governor .ie the forward clutch etc.max rpm at full throotle is controlled by the governors effect on the upshift side of a shift valve vs the tv pressure trying to delay it .if you have less governor pressure than tv pressure at 5500 rpms in first gear in the o/d position the valve will not upshift until a higher road speed is attained which increase governor pressure .you now must reduce tv pressure or add weight to the hi side of the governor .at this point however the factory rev limiter may not allow increased engine rpm and road speed therefore a disabled 1/2 shift may occur until backing off the throttle .the same principles hold true for manual shifts .5500 is a good rpm to shoot for and if you cant do it you can always go to www.ckperformance.com
