great deal on a gt35r turbo, is it worth it?

I was with my buddies this weekend and I mentioned my buick and the fact that I needed a turbo and he said he has a gt3582 garret turbo laying around from an abandoned VW project. He would give it to me for a steal, Is it worth running? I have a stock 3.8 with Ta performance headers and front mount intercooler.
I don't know the AR because he couldn't remember it.
Any information helps.

If you have heads, intercooler and a good converter it is as long as it's not a Chinese counterfeit

I haven't actually seen this turbo, but if what he says is true, its an in the box garret.
