Can anyone give me some definitive numbers regarding the proper stall speed for the GT61 turbo? I'm looking for real world timeslips and combos from people that have this turbo and are making it work. This turbo sounds like it might be a possible upgrade over my TA49.

My car is a street driver stoplight warrior with a 3000 stall 9/11, ported irons, and a 206/206 cam. I can change the converter stall if necessary but would prefer not to since a high stall makes hooking up on DR tires difficult. I really don't care about performance at the track since racetracks are damn near extinct here in So Cal anyway. Yeah I know I'm a bad guy for wanting to race on the street and all, so please save that take on the subject.

For a street car on drag radials are these GT turbos really worth the money over the old school TA49? Truthfully I'm not convinced that on the street I'd be any better off than with the combo I already have. Let the opinions fly and thanks for the info! Thanks. :)

I just put in a GT61 Turbo from John Craig & after taking to Chris & CK Performance Transmissions he convinced me to go with a 9/11 3400 stall. My car is driven 99% of the time on the street & so far I'm extremely pleased with both the 61 & the stall. I went from a te44 & stock stall. The car drives around town w/ excellent street manners, but is capable of blowing the tires away from a 40 punch...This is w/ 24 lbs of boost on 93 octane & SMC alchy kit. Bottom line is I definetly noticed a difference over the 44 & would do it again....

Ben, we just installed a GT61 in place of a TA-49 on a local GN. His build is almost identical to yours.

Bottom end feels about the same, after 6-7 psi it really comes alive! We should have some track comparison numbers soon as this is/was a low 12 sec. street car.

Hey Nick, thanks for the info and if you get a chance please post or email me with the results on the GT61. :)

I'm thinking this turbo might work and could give me a little more grunt and low 11 second potential without having to upgrade anything else in my combo, other than the tired stock trans..... :(

I'm finally recovering from the hit and run job on my car that siphoned off a thousand bucks from my tranny fund. If it isn't one thing it's another! Hope to see you in Vegas. I'm not sure yet if I can make it. :)

Turbo upgrade?

Hey Ben, If you do upgrade the squirrel cage, I'm in the market for a used, good condition TA-49. Let me know if your interested? Have you been to the dounut shop lately? I'm pondering the idea of going this weekend. Mike

Hey Mike,

I'll keep you posted.

Haven't been to the Donut Shop all summer. Work has just been crazy this summer. Haven't even had much time to fool with the car at all.

Nick, what exhaust wheel were you running on the GT61?

Don't know, it is a PTE unit from Full Throttle? Need to ask Mike L.

As far as I know, Mike sells PTE turbos.
