Can someone who is running a GT3255 turbo give me their opinion on this turbo (or someone who has 1st hand knowledge)? I want to upgrade from stock, but I don't want to upgrade the converter. This will be a mostly street car with a couple visits each year to the track. I have done most of the basic upgrades, as well as added the smc alky kit. just recently purchased a set of 009 injectors. Really looking for opinions and advise. Goal is to be a high 11 second car.

went from the stock to the gt3255e now to the gt6152e. the 32 was awesome on the street and the spool up was great. you will not have to upgrade the converter. if 11's is all you are looking for the 3255e is perfect for ya. if you do the converter mind as well go with the 61. good luck either way.

I have a GT32. I had it with a D5 and a 10" 2800 Neal Chance. It spooled good on a D5. Spools great with the Neal Chance. Spools instantly. It is a lot of fun on the street.

ryan george, I have this turbo on my car with 009s, THDP, and a few other bolt-ons along with a D5 2800 stahl converter. It spooled instantly and I had a best ET of 11.88 with it last summer. That was with 21 lbs of boost on 110 with more room to go faster. Personally I think it is a great turbo. Hope this helps.

I would go with the 6131 if you have a stock converter. I was going to get the 6152 but numerious places said you realy need a 3200+ stall converter. This is just the info I have read and called about.

3255

great turbo on the street, street lights are a great thing, i have not looked back......... car runs high 11 at the track easy, on the street you need some traction, fun fun fun, no lag, spool feels instant, even the factory converter worked great

Cover

Never tried, was waiting to find a chrome one that was cut for TH DP, car is not stored here so i cant try today, ill try to check in the next few days

True.

There is some serious fabrication that will be required to get the factory heat shield to work, due to the factory dog ear bracket not being used on this turbo. The turbine housing bolts to the chra differently than a standard T3 based turbo. (TA-49 - PT67) 4 bolts attach the turbine housing to the bearing cartridge vs 6 bolts on the T3 based bearing cartridge. Some fabrication will be required. I have yet to see one with a heat shield installed. To me this is the only downside. Unless a change in the design has been made recently.

It will spool up fine with a stock D5 converter. However, why limit your combinations' capabilities when a PT6131E will spool up just as well but give you another 40-60 hp worth of extra breathing room vs the GT3255E, not too mention the turbo shield will bolt on to the PT6131E and they are very closely priced. Unless pricing has gone up again. Running 11's on a GT3255E (520hp rating) vs a PT6131E (600 hp rating) could be like going from 26psi to 22psi.
Just my O2's worth.

Are you saying athe PT6131E will spool just as well as a GT3255E with a stock converter?

Im considering a turbo upgrade for my stock D5 car and was leaning toward
a 3255 until I realized i needed a new actuator AND the cover wouldnt fit.
So then an old TA49 seemed more attractive...

I'm sure Mike @ Full Throttle can chime in on that one.
:D
