I gut mine last year. I cut the about an inch or so off the very top and then cut 3/4 of the bottom off. I took and broke the runners out and widened out the runner to the turbo inlet. I had the shop weld some pieces by the outlet so I could widen it out more. Then I had them weld it up. Maybe you could get boost231 to get you a pic of the one I sold him last year.

Intake

There is no need to do any cutting at the bottom of the intake.

Take your porting tool, and port out all the ports...There is ALOT of material that can be removed. When you have removed all of the material from the ports polish them.

As for where the Turbo enters the intake take your porting tool, and make that "hump" for the EGR smaller for better flow, and open up where the air splits a bit....when you are done polish that up.

That is all you need to do....no need to cut off the bottom....Lee ran 10's using this method.

I have a feeling the majority of the gain is in the porting and inlet like was already said. I had the runners built up by welding so I could make all of them straight and match them to the felpro 1200 gaskets all the way up. I removed the egr passage so the inlet is a flat floor. I cut the top off and removed the zip tubes and center divider. I did the last two last and I could feel a small difference. My plugs also looked the same from side to side instead of the passenger side being leaner like it has been for the last 4 years.

If the internal runners are so great why are they eliminated in 86/87 and the turbomotion intakes?

The runners are so great, because in that area you can use alcohol/water injection to cool down the air charge like GM planned on! While the Air/Water mixture is moving along there it can cool, and by the time it reaches the ports it is fully atomized.

It was eliminated in 1986/1987, because they used Intercoolers to cool their air charge.

According to Buick literature, the purpose of the zip tubes was for tuning purposes. They are supposed to create a flatter torque curve and actually have two peaks. Don't know if it worked because I've never seen a dyno of a stock hotair but I know my car ran better after they were removed. For the alky, the air is moving so fast, I doubt it will make much difference. I'm installing the SMC kit on my car soon. Maybe I'll inject it into the intake and then try it 1' away from the intake in the IC plumbing and see if it makes a difference.
