Went to pick up my ls1 maf yesterday from the junkyard from one of the nicer guys in the business. However, it seemed everyone was curious (besides the guy I like) to why I was going to remove the screen.

....then in walks this younger punk and he states (as sarcastic as he could) "cuz bugs and dirt make more compression right?"......what an idiot!! I thought about going off but just stayed down at his level...."not to worried about that considering I STILL HAVE A FILTER".

Well, he didn't say anything, but another guy steps in and says "well, I had a buddy (here we go) who was OFF ROADING and ended up finding sand in his carbs and past the air filter"

...here is where I said that I'm glad I went to college...or high school at the very least! So I stayed calm and simply stated "I'm not about to take a GN off-roading and seriously doubt that I'll EVER play around in the mud".....here's the come back: "yeah, but sand is everywhere"....omg!!!!

...so I took my maf...said "later" to the guy I respect...and smile as the 2 other guys are looking at me like I'm retarded....or wondering what they are going to eat next...not sure :)

Anyway, I had to vent on this one! I stopped myself from lecturing the "crew" on simple things like....."hmmmmm....that's odd, because I'm pretty sure you have some speed density cars out in your yard right now....WHAT WAS GM THINKING!!!!!" At the very least, I should of went off and stated what the frickin' screen is there for anyway....to trap bugs, dirt....sure...but to save the maf...not my engine!!!! However, these are situations where being right isn't always the best policy since I'd have better luck trying to tell everyone the world is flat!

Again, just had to vent and let you in on something I guess I wasn't aware of when we remove our screens....and I'm not ripping on anyone that is in this career....just those that choose not to think before speaking.

LOL! That's quite a story.

As a point of trivia, the screens prior to the MAF are included to reduce air turbulence across the MAF, not as a filter of any kind.

Watch out for that sand
;)

Hey now! Easy with the Big Block Chevelle comments! ;)

Wow, I'm glad I left one screen on my stocker MAF. I need it to stop all that sand that gets past the filter.

:D

People like this can never be convinced of anything beyond their ability to conceptualize. They have no experience other than heresay.

You shoulda just told em the truth, well sorta. The screen on your stock MAF was causing a frequency vibration when your GN was makin' 10 sec 1/4 passes and since the stock Delco Maf's send frequency signal to the ECM, it was causing a disturbance that was slowin' ya down to 11's.So your gettin the LS1 Maf to convert it to frequency cause the little wire in it makes a sweet little whistlin' sound at WOT that allows your GN to run down in the 9's cause the frequency of the whistle is in tune with your car's ECM.

Scramble their little heads as much as you can, but in a kind, subtle, way:D

Have a Nice Day!:)

I'd agree with this. I know that I'm a big guy, but a one (half?) egg omelet just doesn't satisfy. ;)

should have told 'em you needed the piece of screen to fix the hole in that there screen door out the back of your house, after your aunt bessy tripped her fat ass coming down the steps on the way to the barb-q and punched a hole right through it. they would have been like "oh yeah, that's a great idea!"
