Went to pick up my ls1 maf yesterday from the junkyard from one of the nicer guys in the business. However, it seemed everyone was curious (besides the guy I like) to why I was going to remove the screen.
....then in walks this younger punk and he states (as sarcastic as he could) "cuz bugs and dirt make more compression right?"......what an idiot!! I thought about going off but just stayed down at his level...."not to worried about that considering I STILL HAVE A FILTER".
Well, he didn't say anything, but another guy steps in and says "well, I had a buddy (here we go) who was OFF ROADING and ended up finding sand in his carbs and past the air filter"
...here is where I said that I'm glad I went to college...or high school at the very least! So I stayed calm and simply stated "I'm not about to take a GN off-roading and seriously doubt that I'll EVER play around in the mud".....here's the come back: "yeah, but sand is everywhere"....omg!!!!
...so I took my maf...said "later" to the guy I respect...and smile as the 2 other guys are looking at me like I'm retarded....or wondering what they are going to eat next...not sure
Anyway, I had to vent on this one! I stopped myself from lecturing the "crew" on simple things like....."hmmmmm....that's odd, because I'm pretty sure you have some speed density cars out in your yard right now....WHAT WAS GM THINKING!!!!!" At the very least, I should of went off and stated what the frickin' screen is there for anyway....to trap bugs, dirt....sure...but to save the maf...not my engine!!!! However, these are situations where being right isn't always the best policy since I'd have better luck trying to tell everyone the world is flat!
Again, just had to vent and let you in on something I guess I wasn't aware of when we remove our screens....and I'm not ripping on anyone that is in this career....just those that choose not to think before speaking.
