Hard to get into park after sitting in garage for awhile

What causes this, it's a rebuilt trans that ran fine before parking it in garage ? I just installed a new shifter cable but still alittle difficult to get into park.

Need to adjust the cable. Took me a few trys to get it right when I replaced my cable

I had this problem and the tabs on the shifter cable were doing the splits allowing the cable to extend through the bracket a bit too much under the console. I zip tied the tabs tight and taped them down and no problem now.

Thanks- I'm wondering if there are two different cables for 87 motors but I have a rebuilt 84/85 trans.
