Hardened parts

I've been told that some production BQ transmission were built with hardened parts, is this true? If so is there anyway to verify this? Also if this is true would this apply to reman GM units as well? Any help is great appreciated, since I would like to do some upgrades but not any unnecessary ones.

I think the Hardened Sun Shell & Stator Support started to be added in 86/87.
Stator Support will have Blueish/Black in between splines, Sun Shell will have dark coated look.
