i wrecked my D5/front pump due to misalignment.

i am now useing a front pump from another turbo car given me by a buddy. it worked good for him-nothing wrong with it for him- he went to a vigilante lock up and changed front pumps.
this one i have may have had the pump vanes replaced in the past, maybe other stuff i am not sure.
my converter is a non turbo converter (out of a 3.8/thm2004r). i am just useing it temporarelly.
i am working on getting a D5.
but now my 2nd shift is way to harsh. it shifts smooth with very light acceleration- but anything more and it just shifts too wicked.

anyideas?
thanks
paul

a stuck or sticn]\king pr valve in the replacement pump perhaps?what else was changed?

something stuck/sticking in front pump?

ok -
if i pull it out should i break it open to inspect it and if so any thing in particular to look at ?
or can i just take out and check it out for probable problem with out separating the two halves ?

could it be that this pump is set up to provide these very harsh 2nd shifts ? that question may be hard to answer !

anything else changed ?
well the motor is a replacement motor and occasioned the putting back togeather of the trans to the motor ?

but as far as the trans goes it is the same trans - been in the car- been working fine prior - (transgo shift kit)- chirped the tires upon request in a typical manner and not harsh at all.

thanks for any additional thoughts...
paul

You don`t have to remove the pump to check the PR valve, just the pan & remove from bottom.

Maybe the lower stall conv. you installed is giving you the harder shifts?

I think Chris may have hit it right off. Check your P/R valve to see if it is stuck, or it may have been replaced to increase line pressure. That would be the place to start. Mark :D :D :D

P.s. Russ, be nice. I think i hear the black helicopters coming. LMAO

pressure regulator valve

ok - i have a ATSG techtran manual and i see in the pump assembly where i have to go now to check the PR valve.

can i assume when i remove the snap ring all the parts will fall right out. and that if they do can i assume that nothing was sticking ? should i then just clean parts up and reinstall ?

how can i tell if i ought to replace the tv boost vavle- i mean could a aftermarket tv boost valve be causing the super hard shifts ?

this unit had been laying around wrapped up in plastic for a couple years prior to my useing it.... so maybe itis something in the PR valve system.
i will check itout.
thanks for any other pointers.

paul

well if it turns out that you need a smaler valve, i have 2 .471's and one smaller than that. you could have for the cost of shipping
good luck,
Mike

hey chris,
I sent you an email eariler. I got the envelope today and there was a hole in it and noting in there :( i was wondering if i could just tap the hole and use a grub screw with the locktite. I really appreciate you sending it though.
Thanks,
Mike
