Have any of you added the 86/87 rad. "ram air shroud"?

I made that name up, I'm not even sure what its called actually, I could find out but I'm out of town using a extremely slow connection speed and don't have time to wait around. I'm in the process of doing the F-bod rad. and ramcharger fan upgrade, and I'm bringing my entire cooling system up to speed while I'm at it. All new hoses, 160 thermostat, new heater valve, new overflow tank, better water pump, sucked all coolant out of heater core, Jacked the rear of the car waaayyyy up in th air to drain as much out of the block as possible (Because I'm putting in G-05 coolant and its not really compatible with other coolants, supposebly). Some of the fins on my ac condensor where not straight or had been smashed over, so I ran a fin comb through them to straighten them out, I removed the front grill to do the front of the condensor, and while I was in there, it occured to me that I didn't have that "rubber quilting" shroud that bolts under neath the grill area and up the sides like the 86/87's have. I'm pretty sure the 84/85's didn't get that right? Have any of you added that and would recomend that I do the same? I put so much info in this post because if anybody else has got some recomendations for me while I'm redoing the whole system, I would be very appreciative of any input. thanks

I thought all , or most, did come with what your describing. I dont think it is just 86/87 Tr's. I think most cars lost it along the way. I put the two side "deflectors" (that run verticle) on mine. Got them off a NA car in the junkyard. They install with wire ties. Didnt get the lower piece. I think thats the one that must dissappear first. Ive seen plenty of '87s without it. My brother's clean 87 TLtd is probably the only one that I can picture seeing with it in place.
I do recall not only that flexible material stuff that your describing but also plastic pieces too on some of the cars, on the sides. If I get a chance I will get some pics.

Thought about "where to get some material do make some" as well since my car does not have the deflectors. In the end though, with the f-body rad and no FMIC , the car remains cool enough not to give me heart burn.

material is available from postons I believe. It's cut to fit. I'm probably going to go ahead and do mine. I would think that the sides (at least driver side) would definetely be a good idea if you've got a cold air intake. btw 6sense, some people have been getting a kick out of the "storm trooper cold air intake" name. If i wasn't so picky about my cars, I'd put a starwars sticker somewhere on the tubing.

I pay attention to detail, so I can be pretty picky too. I like being different and customizing and modding goes along with that idea, but there has to be a limit, and you have to stick to a theme. Sometimes things go too far to where it is gaudy (or too pimped out). HOWEVER, I always thought it would be cool to have a GN with dark tint [the car totally blacked out] and Darth Vader airbrushed on the trunk or hood, or whatever. I think that would be sinister and as a theme go well with this particular car.
Put a sticker on it if you want, I wouldnt be mad at you :smile: Maybe Im a little partial though, I grew up with Star Wars on the brain :redface:
Hey by the way, I hold the rights to that "stormtrooper" idea/name, I just need to get the particulars worked out with George Lucas

HA ha, nice. Guess Im from that generation. Dont get the wrong idea though Im definately not like one of those crazed Star Trek fans [Trekkies], I just give props to a great story that was a part of my younger years and still enjoy to this day
