I'm betting it's a PT54 with a .63 turbine housing as those numbers would sorta make sense, just a little mixed up.
Check the compressor cover discharge for any engraving codes. If the turbo is installed, you would have to remove the IC hose and look underneath the discharge with a flashlight and mirror. Really awkward if installed on the car.
Another way would be to look on the backside very edge lip of the compressor cover for a CNC cut part number on the compressor cover.
The E cover would have a CCE number, S cover CCS, H cover CCH.
In this case, if it was a PT54 turbo, it should say CCE54 on that lip. This lip is the edge that the compressor cover backing plate clamp, clamps flush against when the bolts are tightened down. Depending on where it is CNC cut, in relation to the orientation of the cover when installed, you might have to remove the hoses, loosen all the backing plate bolts and rotate the cover down or up to see this number.
If the compressor cover has a 3" inlet and 2" discharge with the only cast in info being .60 A/R on the cover, chances are it is a Precision cast TO4E compressor cover.
The last IDing mark on the turbo, would be on the turbine housing discharge flange. Remove the downpipe from the side of the turbo (4 each 13mm bolts/allen head cap screws) and look for this part number. THB3-_ _
If memory serves me correct, the 54 turbo used the TO4 69 turbine wheel. So it should say THB3-69. If that's the number you got, then it's either a PT53 or PT54 turbo.
In any case, the PT54 was typically good for up to 600-610 or so flywheel hp. Really loves a 3200-3400 stall converter, but will live with a 3000.
If it says THB3-76 then it could be anything from a 60-1 turbo to a 70mm turbo. If it says THB3-52, it could be a PT51, PT52, or PT6152 turbo.
Let us know more about the numbers and what compressor cover it has. Pics would be very helpful as well.
Here's a big clue for ya. What torque converter is in the car?
Does it spool up fast enough from a dead stop punch to roast the tires for days? Or does it have some lag and will barely squeel the tires?
Let us know.
P.S.
Good to see ya posting Harry, keep up the good work. And just for the record guys, Harry is the true Turbo Guru, not me.
