I am taking my factory headers off soon to get welded up. I was thinking of cleaning them up so they look better. I have access to a sand blaster, so I was wondering if I could sandblast them and get them powdercoated or something. Is it ok to sandblast them?

there's no reason not to sandblast, providing you realize they will eventually develop surface rust again. Being 409 stainless, it will probably be tough to sand blast -- probably require high pressure and aluminum oxide media.

I would tape off the openings, try to get as little debris inside as possible, and then THOROUGHLY wash out and blow out the insides. You wouldn't want any stray sand blast grit getting inside the Turbo's turbine

Powdercoating will not withstand the high temps, peaking at around 1500 ºF during WOT.

i had mine off and had them ceramicoated @ airborne... they look really nice and wont flake off (or shouldnt,,, they are gauranteed)

I had JetHot do my headers with their black 2000* coating. This was about 2 years ago, and they still look great. They've been off the car several times and show no signs of rust or flaking.

The only downside I see is that it is a little expensive. To me though, it was well worth it.

Jet Hot 2000 in their gray coating on my THDP. Very satisfied with how it has held up so far. I will be doing my headers and crossover pipe over the winter with the same stuff. Pricey but worth it.

I've read JetHot normally coats the INSIDES also. How do they get it to stick?! The outside you can sandblast clean, but the insides??

On a non-turbo car it's no big deal, but on TR's I'd be worried about flaking bits of ceramic getting into the turbine wheel and housing.

Has anyone looked inside JetHot'ed headers after they've been in service for a while?

I have a set of ATR headers, i thought i doing this also. How much is jet coat and does anyone have any pictures.

6 months ago I got an email quote for the JetHot2000.

It was $110 per each stock header and $15 per foot for the crossover pipe (3 ft) ... Grand Total about $265 (not including shipping). I imagine ATR headers would be same or similar.

Also from JetHot
All parts receive a 3year unlimited guarantee that covers chipping, peeling, cracking, discoloration, rusting – anything.
Can't beat that!

I think that's their secret, I don't know other than it works and it's very durable. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Don't quote me on this, but I think I paid around $200 to have my headers done back in January 2001.

Anybody have a number for Jet-Hot? I think they are close to me in Norristown.
