Is it a good thing or bad thing? I want to put some on my headers because I'm rerouting my wires and some get a little close to the header. However I was wondering if it's going to keep too much heat inside the headers. Will I lose any performance by putting it on there? Also for those of you who have header wrap already on your TTA did you do it with the headers on or off? If I have to take them off how difficult is it to remove the headers on the TTAs? I'll have the motor most of the way stripped down by then (intercooler, intake, valvecovers, most of the wiring will all be gone). I'm wondering about the same questions with the downpipe too.

Alright well my main question is how hard are they to remove? Also is it very hard to get them to seal correctly when you reinstall them? Thanks for the links.

I've heard that Swain and some other companies also coat the piston skirts, the intake manifold can be done...come to think of it, if your wallet is deep enough, anything can be done...maybe including the Porsche setup where it squirts oil to the bottom of our pistons to cool them off... ;)

I had swain tech do mine and I love it. The coating is paintable, here is what mine looked like after I got them back and painted them with the high temp paint.

Looks nice! How much did it cost you to get your headers and crossover pipe coated? Also how long did it take them once you gave swain tech your stuff?

Interesting... you painted yours gray with something like VHT? I left mine white. I had mine done maybe 5 years ago. Still look great and you just touch them up with hi-temp paint if you need to. Glad someone else likes Swain. Everyone called me a jerkoff for 4 years for using them. I had my pistons and stuff done for the hell of it when I rebuilt my motor.

I've had both the ceramic coating, and stainless, and used the wrap stuff.
The wrap is going to keep the heat out of the engine bay, in fact you can even touch it after making a run, cermic coating is still going to allow a lot of under hood heat...BUT
Never use wrap where oil may drip on it..ei under you valve covers, otherwise your car may go up in FLAMES!
I use it on the downpipe only. Keeping the gases hot aids in pushing them out the pipe easier and helps for spoolup...it would be great to keep in all the heat all the way up to the turbo using a wrap, but due to the oil and fire issue, that is not possible...so ceramic coating is the next best thing.

AKTURBOTA, I cant remember the turn around time exactly but I think it was about a week or so, the price was 220 plus 20 for shipping.

mark b The color that the headers are painted in the pic was a cast iron color. It was only a 900 or 1200 degree paint, it didnt last. I had to take them back off and respray them with a 1500 degree paint from the autoparts store. They only make that paint in three colors that I could find. Black white and silver. I went with silver, its a little brighter of a silver than I wanted but it still looks good I think. I dont have a pic of the new color or I would of posted. The 1500 degree paint has held up great with no sign of flaking or peeling.

They sure do look nice! I think that I may pursue getting my headers coated as well. I am working toward getting my TTA with a blown HG back on the road, and would like to "pretty up" the headers at the same time.

About the hardest part is getting the car jacked up. Remove or loosen the turbo, a couple brackets for the accessories, cross over and dip-stick tube. I had my down pipe out when I did it but it may not be required.

There is a sealing product out there that works well. I think it's Permatex Ultra-Copper but not sure. Do a site search.
