Headgasket installation

OK, first dumb question of the headgasket installation:

Does the side with the individual fire rings go towards the head or the block? The one side of the gasket has the metal fire rings connected between the cylinders while the other side has the metal rings seperated between cylinders. Does it make a difference? Stock had the connected side toward the head, the rebuild had the un connected side toward the head.

Found the answer. The side with the rings connected goes towards the block. Checked at old set that still had the factory gaskets attached.
