I have about had it up to here with this car about now. I went to replace the turn signal lever with Kirbans replacement. I go to pull the cable back through and the old thing breaks off. So now I cant get the new cable back through the column. How can I do that without the original wire running through there?
-My Main problem...
For awhile, I had hi/low beam switch problems. So, while messing with the lever, I was checking out the switch for that too. I go to turn on the lights to see whats up, and no headlights. Hi or low beam. I was like wtf? I pulled out the headlight switch, and tested to see if it was working. It was working fine, and sending out power, The parking lights work just fine, but no headlights at all. No fuses blown, I am out of things to try. I know that when trying to switch to high beams before, it would shut off both headlight sets.

I really need to fix this, and soon. Or cobble it together somehow. I have tomorrow off, but I have to get to work friday, and Im gonna need the lights later on. The vans motor is probably not gonna make it very far in its shape. I really cant ride my bike 10 miles to work. I am so friggin frustrated right now, Everytime I touch anything on that car everything goes to heck it seems. I really appreicate any help guys.

there is a switch that the turn signal lever goes into so it could be bad and its real fun tearing apart the steering column, atleast i had that problem with my 89 jimmy but it made the windshield wipers go when i did high low beams but the steering column should be essentially the same oh and did you check the fuse?

Those of you with wiring diagrams for our cars...

Where does the wire off of the headlight switch go to next? I am getting power to the headlight circuit of that connection when the switch is on. Parking light circuit works just fine. It can't just run from the switch out to the headlights, there has to be something in between that. If I can figure out what it is and trace it, hopefully Ill figure this out.
I do have the service manuals for the car, but at my dads house about 45 minutes away.
For some reason I think it has to do with the high/low switch, because I have had problems with that all along. How could I bypass it to see?

sorry man i cant help since i dont have a TR yet :( i just thought i would say some basic stuff, and your wiper switch is actually inside the column and not in the lever, and crap now that i think about it the high low switch is down around the bottom of the column and there is a wire rod that goes from the wiper switch (like when you pull on the cruze lever it moves) down the the lower end of the column but i forget where they go from there but you could crawl up under the dash and see if you pulled any wires out of place when you pulled the cruise.

just throwing out my idea, what about the relay's? either that or it still might be in the switch, I have a few of these go and they are pretty much free at a junk yard.

I know that I didnt disconnect any wires, other than those to pull out the lever. Youre right about the high/low switch, it is activated by a rod going through the column. I have the whole column down on the floor, so I can get to everything easier. I can activate that switch manually with my hand, and it clicks, but doesnt change anything. There must be a short in it somewhere.
I have not had high beams for months now.

Looking at a wiring diagram from a similar GM setup, it appears that the headlite sw supplies power out through 2 seperate circuits, one for running lites and the other for headlights. next it goes into the hi/low switch itself, and out to the lights. I am just betting that the hi/low switch is bad or not making contact inside somewhere. I going to take a run (ride actually) down the road tomorrow to the local yard, and see if they have one. I hope to heck that it works. Im lucky its only a few miles away.
I didnt realize these things could go bad. Anyone ever had one go bad on them before?

EDIT: ok, just saw justin's post. musta been posting as i was writing :D
