Heat Shield Question

On my 85 Hot Air GN the heat shield that is tack welded onto the drivers side header is about ready to fall off. I am going to pull it off completly this afternoon before I loose it while driving around. My question is, do I need this shield to be there? Is it protecting anything or do I not need it at all. If I need it then I will get it welded back on but if not Ill just leave it off. Please let me know. Thanks

I don't think I have even seen a set with the shield still on! I assume it is there to protect the upper A arm bushings, etc from heat. If you have time to get it out and welded, it may not be a bad idea. If you don't have time, or don't want to, remove it and save it for later. :redface:
