Help!!!!!! Converter install.........

So I'm trying to install my 10" Pat's 3200 l/u converter. I lost the install instructions.......anyway. I put the converter on the transmission and tried to bolt the bellhousing on...........and the bolts are way to hard to tighten, so I stopped. The converter mounting pads are pushed so hard against the flywheel that it's starting to bend.............what's up???????? Shouldn't the thing just press in place, then spin freely???? On removal, the D5 was loose and spun nicely as soon as I removed the three converter-to-flywheel bolts. What's up with this Pat's............I have a feeling it's my sloppy install. HELP!!!

Stupid question. Once you put it on the shaft of the tranny did you spin it on until you got the 3 clicks?

What he said....

You put the converter on.... spinning it slowly while continuing to press it toward the tranny.... you have that slot in the end of the converter that drives the pump.... it has to be rotated to line up before it will fully seat.

Also.... when you bolt up the bellhousing... you should have a small gap (approx 1/4"... or so) between the converter pads and the flywheel. If not.... something is wrong.....back up and re-evaluate.

It was late last night, and a few years since my last install..........so the "three clicks" is something I may have missed.........I'll get on it. Hopefully I didn't do any damage. Thanks guys!!!!

The first click will come relatively soon after you start spinning the converter. The 2nd will be a few turns. The 3rd click is the one that may take some time to get. After the 2nd click, do a few turns, then turn slowly till you here it. Sometimes the three clicks can happen in as few as 10 turns. My install seemed to take like 50 turns before I got the 3rd one. Hold constant pressure against the tranny as you turn it. You did fill up the converter with fluid before you started, right?

I've got about 1 quart in it right now........I was hoping that would be enough, then top off the system with 4 more quarts. Good idea, or no???

I never worried too much about topping it off.... the second the engine starts spinning over.... the tranny pump will fill the converter IMHO
