I'm wanting to purchase some nice 17X8 wheels. They have the right bolt pattern, however, they have a +5 offset. In other words they have a little over 4" of backspacing. I'm wanting to put some 275/40/17 tires on them so I'm worried about them fitting. Will I definately need spacers? If so, how large? How much are they and what websites sell them?

Here's a pic of the wheel I'm interested in....

Four inches of backspacing is max. That is what factory steel wheels have. Tarey D.

I just took off my rear wheels and measured the backspacing on them. They are factory GN wheels that have been "widened" by Trudesign Wheels.

They are 15X8" with 4.25" backspacing. I had 275/50/15 Nittos on them with very little rubbing on the inner frame. I agree though, 4" would be more optimal.

These new wheels are a +5mm offset on a 17X8, so they're approximately 3 and 15/16" backspacing.... so they should fit better than the 15X8's did.....

Will I have any problem with 275's on a 8" wheel in the front in hard turning?

I haven't seen anybody run anything wider than a 255 up front. I just bought Simmons wheels and I'm going with a 8 1/2 x 17 up front with 255 45 17 up front and 9 1/2 x 17 in back with 285 40 17s, BFG G Force TAs. Good luck with tires that wide!

275's up front!!!???!!! I'm the biggest speaker of measure your car to see what will fit since I have 18x9.5's on the rear of mine with 5" backspacing with NO problems at all. But damn, I have 235's on 17x8's up front and have HARD rubbing at max turn in (in both directions). In fact if I have the wheel turned fully, it will hold the car from rolling at idle. So personally, I think 275's up front will SERIOUSLY limit your turning radius.

I run Boyd Coddington wheels, 17x8 front and rear, with factory backspacing. I'm using Nitto Extreme ZR 255/40/17 up front with very little rubbing at full turns and 275/40/17 Nitto Drags out back. But, I also have the BAER Track kit with 13" rotors, Eibach Pro-kit, HAL shocks, and a bunch of Hotchkis stuff.

16x8 wheels on the frt 0" offset ,255x50x16 sz50 tires , no rubbing at all , I think a 17x8" wheel and a 245x45x17 tire could fit well on the frt

I saw the wheel combination in GM High Performance mag. in 2 diff. articles, one about Rick Elams white turbo regal, and one about Heath Elmers black & silver turbo regal, sorry I don't know what months it doesn't say on the pages I printed to keep for my archives. Both used Simmons wheels, one used 17x8 1/2 up front the other used 18x8 1/2 up front, with 255/45R17s, and the other used 265/35R18s up front. On the rear both had 9 1/2in wide in rear, one with 285/40R17s, and the other with 295/35R18s. Hope I helped you some, I haven't put mine on yet my GN is at the paint shop. Good luck.

ZAM70, left you a message on your home phone with my number, give me a ring when you get home from work.

Ok, this sucks, I wanted to be able to rotate all four tires, but I'm not running anything smaller than 275's on the back so I guess that can't happen... so I guess maybe some 255/45/17's are in order for the front.

What are some good wearing street tires in a 275/40/ZR17? Has anyone tried those new Nitto 555 II's? They're road race tires. I just eat up DR's so fast, I need something that will last longer, and put the DR's on an extra set of wheels.
