I have really had enough of the north/ Connecticut and i'm looking to head south east preferably.

CT IS #3 ON THE LIST OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE STATES TO LIVE IN AND I HAVE NO CLUE WHY BECAUSE THIS PLACE SUCKS !!!!

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-most-expensive-state-to-live-180732578.html

GAS IS SUPER EXPENSIVE $3.89 -4.03 CURRENTLY FOR THE CHEAP STUFF LOCALLY AND I'M SURE THE MORE AFFLUENT TOWNS ITS PROBABLY .25-.30 MORE

http://www.connecticutgasprices.com/index.aspx?area=Meriden

MY NEAREST DRAG TRACK IS 2 STATES AWAY IN 3 DIFFRENT DIRECTIONS my local track is 2 hours and 100 miles in 1 direction. the others are probably 150 miles each and 3 hours 1 way.

my next biggest complaint is guns !!!!! the whole world knows what happened here in CT. long and short of it too much has changed and I don't want to stay here because of it.

so my hobbies are guns/hunting /fishing/ and cars/racing and car shows and swapmeets.

so where can I find a 1/4 mile track or 2 within a hour or so that is gun friendly and also reasonable to live.

I am also a machinist. I can set up and operate many different types of machines and can read blueprints and use measuring equiptment.

I was thinking perhaps TN,NC or KY but i'm open to suggestions. I have a cousin down in Concord NC but his brother tells me don't believe what he says because he's a bs'er.

I would like to be somewhat inland and hopefully be away from hurricane paths. I prefer to not be somewhere regulary hit by tornados either.

I am very serious so any help would be appreciated. i'm about ready to sell some cars, guns, or ammo to make this happen!!!!

thanks for taking the time to help. 203 213 9126 james

And I'm sick of snow too! Pic 1 there is a car buried in that pic and that garage door is 8' tall. 2nd pic there is 3 cars in it. This was this past Febuary there was 3' in 1 shot. I've had enough over the last few years.

Pa.
Come on pal. Meadville Pa is the Tooling and Machining Capitol of the US. We have almost 200 shops in a 50 mile radius.
My bosses collect guns and from what I understand, no big laws that piss them off.
Next, we have Thompson Dragway about 1 hour 10 mins away.
Quaker City Raceway is 1.5 hours and Pittsburgh Dragway is prob 2.
Then you got Norwalk at 3 and National Trail in Columbus at 4. Both hold major Buick events...( even though I was told not to come to BPG Columbus)
There is Canfield Ohio fairgrounds which has one of the largest swap meets in the region and Butler Pa has Pittsburgh Parts-a-Rama which is one of the largest meets in the US.
We also have about 7 area lakes and rivers to fish plus Lake Erie.
...and your much more central for shipping parts!!!
What are ya waitin' for?!?!?! We do get snow...bigger then you guys

Thanks buddy but that would only help solve a couple issues. I've had enough of winter and rusty cars . I think pa would be a lateral move as far as weather goes. I do love PA though I used to go to maple grove all the time and to Carlisle and I have been kinda out your area on my way to Ohio a few times and it is pretty out there but I want the warmth of the south. I'm trying to plan my escape from the north by the begining of the year that's when all the really important gun laws take effect. They want us to register guns and magazines and I refuse to do it. So either stay here and risk trouble. Sell my stuff . Or move! Plus cool guns can no longer be bought in this state even privately. Also if you have a handgun that can 15-20 your only allowed to care 9-10 in it now. So the bad guy can do what he wants but the law abiding citizen is at the disadvantage. I hate this place!!! Plus we make most of the guns and always have. Stag, colt, ptr, seacamp, mossberg, wildey, ruger. We used to have Winchester, Charles Parker, talon, marlin,Remington was here too ! Whitney wolverine, I was told high standard was here too plus a few others. Probably more guns made here than any other state and now this place hates guns

I guess Texas is out cause we get hurricanes but there is a LOT of work for skilled craftsmen down here. I work at TurboCare Houston as maintenance and we are always on the lookout for machinest. We build and rebuild turbines for the energy sector, are owned by the Siemens Corp and have a great benifits/pay package. Take a look on the web as that is where they post job listings. As far as tracks we have 2 1/4 mile and 1 1/8th within 1.5 hours of downtown. Gun laws are kinda well known for being "rob at your own risk" here. There are lots of cruises and car shows so we have a good time.

Ps, what was all that white stuff? Did someones snow cone machine blow up?

Georgia...
From the Atlanta area:
2 hr to the mtns.
4 hrs to the beach.
1 hr to the drags. [Atl dragway]
2 hrs to Reynolds. Racing from Feb thru Nov.
Gas is currently $3.49, near the house.
Weather is good, 99% of the time. Haven't seen significant snow since??
Housing MUCH less costly.
I'm in the country, east of Atl...No code police w/ their foot up my a$$. [We don't call 911:D]
A gun store most anywhere you want to look.
Concealed carry is good, easy to obtain...I wear mine right where everyone can see what they may have to contend with.:)
Hunting: deer, turkey, hogs, doves.
Fishing: Lots of places to go.
Stay out of Atlanta, and the really busy counties, and no smog checks...
I moved here in 1974, from Illinois. Would NEVER consider returning.

Want to talk about it? Call me @ 706-342-3152 [H/S] 770-265-5144 [C]

Knoxville, TN !!!

* Centrally located to almost every Buick event with a 5-6 hr drive being the longest, BG is only 3 hrs away...
Myrtle beach=6 hrs away, FL=9.5 hrs away,
* Very little snow fall (I moved here from Wis. 17 yrs ago and have still never used a shovel!! It will snow then it's gone the next day.
* My property tax on a 1,700 sq ft house on 1 acre is $600 A YEAR!
* Gas here is $3.28 and with a discount card it's $3.25
* Not much here in terms of tornadoes or hurricanes because they are blocked by the mountains.
* TN's freeway system & roads are Fantastic! Some of the nicest highways I have ever been on..
* Beautiful views everywhere you go.
* Cruise inns all over the place..
* Dragstrip? 411 is 1 Mile from my house, Knoxville dragway 1 hr away, Bristol dragway 1.5 hr away...
* 3 HUGE rod runs in Pigeon Forge each year which take up 6 lanes of road for at least 7 miles each way. both sides of the streets are Lined with people and fold out chairs....FUN TIME!
* People are very nice too!
* Guns? Well let's just say this state Welcomes guns and carry permits! There are Many gun shows here per year. Here is a picture of the front window of our local BBQ place where my son works... They also have a cruise inn on Friday nights.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are tourist attractions so you basically want to stay on the outskirts of those places.. Seymour, Knoxville, Kodak, Sevierville are all good places..

As a matter of fact my house is for sale which I will make you a good deal on! I just done a Bunch of new Major up grades last year so it will be good to go for many more years! New metal roof, new heat & A/C units, new gutters, new 28' above ground pool partially sunken in ground, new treated privacy fence, new pool deck (over 1,000 sq ft). Rear yard is fenced in for dogs.

TurboDave also lives here and I am sure he will chime in with his thoughts...

Scot, you moving??
Yes, wanting to but not far away!! My father is going to be retiring soon and he will be moving down here from Wis. to retire and he wants to be on a lake so we are looking for a place on the lake with 2 houses... One city over...:)

Come on down to north al. Could use a turbo friend.

What is that white stuff on the ground?? Lol

What's all that white stuff in your pix? Haha, looks like it makes it hard to get the vehicles in and out of your garage. Lol.
If you come south you might want to get used to running 1/8 th mile. Here in dfw we are close to motorplex in Ennis but the four(one is fairly rough) others are eight mile. Houston has tracks too and plenty of work if you can stand the humidity.
I can't understand why anyone wants to live where it snows. I have before and it sucked. Personal preference I guess. Racing season is pretty much year round. Car shows and such too. I only throw the cover on the pool for 3-4 months out of the year just to keep the leaves out. It is hot here but that's what A/c is for.

Here is a helpful site for looking up random cities. www.city-data.com

I've lived in south Georgia since 1998ish and like it for the most part. There are a few large cities down here, but not near the size of Atlanta. You know what large cities bring...higher prices, more crime, congestion, ect...
It can get pretty hot in the summer, but there are places you can go to cool off. The culture down here is very traditional and relaxed. Get used to people waving at you as you pass...or saying hello and striking up a convo like they know you. We like mug bogs, swimming in the river, fishing, ATV riding, racing dirt tracks, ect... There's a major track in Cecil, GA(some call it Adel) called SGMP which has a reputation for being one of the fastest tracks in the country. It's in south central GA about 30min from the FL state line. If you like the country, then south GA is a nice place to live.

I have 4 tracks here 1/8 mile but all being the longest drive is an hour and fifteen min.

thanks for everyone taking the time to write I do appreciate it !!!!

not many people here really say I love it here but unfortunately when you were born here and all your family and friends are here it makes it harder and harder to leave so that's wht we deal with the snow and all the other bs. that garage in the pic isn't my shop. I have 2 -3000sqft garages that I would somehow condense into into 1 and leave my cars and parts here til I get established elsewhere. I have been considering this move more and more enlight of new gun laws. you can ski or snowboard here but I don't do that. the ocean is only 20-30 minutes away from here and I have never really cared for it.

any and all opinions / comments appreciated :)

Texas gets my vote. I moved to Connecticut three years ago form north Texas. I can agree that it sucks. Ay state that it takes a day to drive from one end to the other gets my vote.

I was driving to work the other day and sneezed. When I looked up I was in rhode island.

I vote NH, everything you like here. Oh wait, you don't like snow.
